Peeking at "spoilers" or waiting for TV?

If I had my choice I would always prefer to view a competition live...however, being on the West coast this RARELY happens<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> I enjoy the "Spoilers" section here--it cures my curiosity and my lack of patience, it also settles my nerves...(what a mess I get myself into during competitions!) If Michelle is in the competition I tend to peek at the spoilers for the SP's but view the LP's cold turkey.

Who here likes to see the results in advance and who likes to wait for the networks?

I'm a big chicken and get too nervous to watch a big competition unspoiled. Also, I'm rarely around when the event is shown on TV, so I tape most events and watch later (often much later). I have no patience to wait until I've actually watched, so I check out the results.

With the Oly Ladies LP, I started watching, but couldn't handle it so I called a friend with internet access (I only have access at work) and asked her to search for the results on-line so I could watch fully prepared. Sad, I know

Peeking

I, also, don't have the patience to wait until 1) the show is broadcast 2) I've recorded it 3) I've had time to sit and watch it. So, I peek.

My husband HATES to know in advance... yet he pesters me "Do you know how so-and-so did? No, WAIT, don't tell me!"

So I try not to spoil it, although when we were watching this year's Cup of Russia, he figured that Vica's long program was a good time to take a break. I said "Do you want me to pause this?" and he says "Don't bother, she never does anything." Hee hee! I paused it. So he got the tip-off.

One thing that's not a true spoiler is the reviews of the various Ice Shows (SOI, Divas, etc). I really love reading all the reactions, even if I haven't yet seen the show. That way, I can watch for the various oddities that people point out.

The only exception was knowing in advance that Takeshi Honda would be wearing toilet paper at the one competition before he switched to duct tape. If I hadn't known in advance that it would look like toilet paper, I'd have been perplexed, maybe figured that it was supposed to represent the strips of fabric that had been used during mummification, but I don't think I'd have made the toilet paper connection. But, since GS posters had already tipped me off, I spent the entire length of the program cracking up, waiting for it to rip loose and get all tangled up. It might have been better if I hadn't known...

I thought I would be very calm watching Evgeni compete and I wasn't. If I hadn't just had my nails done, I probably would've gnawed them all off.

So, yeah, it's easier to watch when I know what's going to happen...

I don't peek. I hate knowing the results before-hand. It was really tough during the 98 Olympics (I was avoiding any news or talk radio).

I like to feel that anxious, nervous feeling. Of course, it would be so much easier if I just peeked!! :lol:

If the broadcast is the same day as the competition (as was the case with '02 Olympics), or just somewhat delayed (as was the case with '98 Olympics), I watch it unspoiled.

But mostly, of course, the broadcast is at least a week or two after the event, and I absolutely cannot wait that long.

(Of course I have no intention of "recovering". I can't even watch LIVE events. I have to tape them, and then see the results before I'll rewind to watch the competition. I'm a true blue spoiler junkie!)

I love spoilers too. When I see events live on tv, I have to be on the internet at the same time. There usually is a few minutes in the difference between the two. Its too stressful not knowing.

Spoilers. I'm most likely gonna die this march with the Freedance at worlds being live, along with all the freeskates. Can't handle surprizes. I would rather know if Shae-Lynn and Victor Win/lose before hand so I can prepare myself.

I agree with whomever said that if it's the same day, wait.

For Grand Prix series, it's too long to wait and see. Much easier to wait before the internet existed, but now no need to wait.

If it's a big competition (Nats, Olys, WOrlds), I avoid spoilers. Part of the fun of watching competitions is not knowing who's won.

I was so pissed off when someone told me 'the one with the 3-3- won Oly's' in 1998. He knew I would know that Tara won and I told him I didn't want to know. I had to practically gag my mother during the 94 Oly's.

I also find that if I'm watching tape, I don't pay as much attention since I can rewind. When I watch live, i get so much more involved. As nerve wracking as it can be, it gives a better sense of what the skaters might be feeling, too.

Yes, I peek at spoilers, especially on the Grand Prix events.
If the program will be broadcast later the same day, I try not to look. Sometimes I make it and sometimes I peek anyway. Sometimes I don't peek and someone will tell me, no matter how loud I say I DON"T WANT TO KNOW!! (this happened with the 1998 and 2002 Olympics both. In fact, since someone almost always tells me, my spoiler addiction has increased, since attempting to stay uninformed is just not working. dpp

I prefer to watch the whole competition fresh, not knowing what the standings are, but sometimes due to media coverage things "leak" out and then I know the outcome beforehand. It does sort of spoil it. Of course, nothing beats being there to watch it live.

Count me in as a "peeker". I get too nervous, so I usually record the competition, and then check the spoilers section. I even peak at the end of a books I read to see how the story ends.........it's a terrible habit.........42

I just LOVED knowing in advance and that was SO much fun! I enjoyed the performances much more than I would have otherwise. My husband kept driving me nuts: "Tell me. No, don't tell me. Okay, just give me a hint. No, don't say anything." ARGH!!! </span>

I have to know. I'm one of these people who also reads the last few pages of a book to see how it ends and then finishes reading the book from the beginning to find out why it ended that way. Make sense? I didn't think so. Anyway...I'll be spoiling myself as much as possible, although I believe the ladies FS and the pairs FS will be airing live, and as I live about 6 hours away from Dallas I don't think there's an opportunity for being spoiled. So I'll basically chew off my fingers by the time it's all over.

If you've seen a competition live (and thus, know the results), do you watch it again when it is broadcast?

If you are attending a competition that will be broadcast live, do you record it while you aren't home, and watch it again when you get home?

While nothing beats seeing it live (though my nerves may disagree), it's really cool to relive the moment. Especially when I'm calmer.

Absolutely!! I also tape when I watch a live-show, so that I can go back and re-play certain programs or parts.
