Throughout history, even the harshest and most shameful measures are regularly accompanied by professions of noble intent — and rhetoric about bestowing freedom and independence.

The old Lakota was wise. He knew that man's heart away from nature becomes hard; he knew that lack of respect for growing, living things soon led to lack of respect for humans, too.
-- Luther Bear

How will you celebrate Earth Day's 35th Anniversary?
"On April 22, 1970, 20 million people across America celebrated the first Earth Day. It was a time when cities were buried under their own smog and polluted rivers caught fire. Now 35 years later, Earth Day is being celebrated around the globe."

Many communities are dedicating this weekend for environmental activites. Here's a site that lists various activities.

Fortunately science, like that nature to which it belongs, is neither limited by time nor by space. It belongs to the world, and is of no country and no age. The more we know, the more we feel our ignorance; the more we feel how much remains unknown.

The Month of APRIL was NATIONAL PREVENTION OF ANIMAL CRUELTY MONTH
Animal cruelty is usually defined as neglecting to provide an animal with the basic necessities of fresh water, food, shelter, and essential veterinary care. This is cruel, inhumane and it is against the law.

Did You Know?
- There is a significant relationship between animal abuse and human violence.
- Animal cruelty is associated with increasingly violent behavior and is an indicator of the potential threat of continuing violence, abuse and criminal activity.
- Cruelty to animals has been identified as one of the earliest reported signs of conduct disorder.
- Animal abusers have themselves often been victims of child abuse.
- A study of women seeking shelter at a safe house showed that 71% of those having pets affirmed that their partner had threatened, hurt, or killed their companion animals.
- Serial killers such as Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Albert DeSalvo (the “Boston Strangler”) and many others committed heinous acts of animal cruelty.

Every month should be NATIONAL PREVENTION OF ANIMAL CRUELTY MONTH. All animals should be protected whether domestic or wild. We all can make it happen.
