Number eight, with about 1.3 million viewers. Not terrible, considering Arena Football and F1 racing each got far less than one million, however of course not up there with NASCAR racing or the NBA.

Does anyone know what ratings other events on ABC received? Did Marshall's did better or worse than Nats? Than other cheesefests? I recall reading somewhere that Worlds got something incredibly low, but I forgot what it was when they made some kind of adjustment for being on cable. Was it better or worse?

I think Nats '05 got in the 4's. While that may sound high, remember that this was a primetime broadcast when more people tend to watch TV. So 4 is actually on the low side in primetime TV. I don't know about the afternoon broadcast or the other pro-ams. I think it's about the same.

I think worlds '05 was comparable to the ratings for this event. I think it was in the 1's. (like 1.7 or something). It was about a quarter of the people who watched in 2004.

I was hoping for better results. After the current contract between USFS and ABC expires in 2007, that may be the end of figure skating on TV.:mad:

Unless...Maybe there could be a tie-in with NASCAR. The cars have a track around the inside of the rink, pulling the skaters like water skiers. When the car hits a curve the skaters fly off like a throw jump.

Or maybe they could just build a rink on the infield of the track, and the skaters could compete while the cars go around. I think they could pay Alexei to open the competition with his "Racing" program to help there be some cohesiveness between the fans. LOL

Maybe it will end up to be what it used to be----figure skating shown as part of a sports show like Wide World of Sports, or "Coutndown to Albertville", like it was in the 1980-1995 range. Figure skating may really be in severe trouble, but I don't think it will disappear from television.

Nagano followed by SLC and Ice Dancing being so blatantly biased all the time have really hurt the sport with most people, and thus, it is no longer a successful television venture. It is only moderately successful in the Pro ranks right now with decreasing ticket sales, etc.

Figure skating has done this to itself from its organization---all internal issues. Fans and the athletes suffer.

Skating will end to be like it was before the Nancy and Tonya days. This exactly what Speedy deserves...just my opinion.
