Giacomo got stuck behind a wall of horses and was 10th on the turn into the stretch. It's amazing that he was able to finally get free and he was moving like a freight train to finish 3rd. The Belmont is a mile and a half (12 furlongs) and will suit his running style.

I think we will see a much smaller field in the Belmont. So far, none of the horses are committed to it. John Sherriffs usually takes at least 3 days to watch his horses after a big race before deciding a next move. Meanwhile, Giacomo is back in California. I saw him there on TVG yesterday, and he looked fantastic.

Tim Ritchey is going to closely monitor Afleet Alex, as he "contorted himself" stumbling. So far he seems fine and no signs of back strain or other problems. he sad this on the Sunday Morning Show. The whole Afleet gang was there.

Rose said he had an angel watching over him that day.

Afleet Alex also has cuts on his foot from when he and Scrappy T clipped heels.

Considering how the horse could have had a career or life ending fracture in a fall, cuts are a mere annoyance and will heal up nicely I'm sure.

Wilko is out with bone chips. Might not be back until this fall or next spring.

Noble Causeway out with a breathing problem.

I know that a horse needs seasoning as a two year old to win the classic races as a three year old, but let's face it 2 year old horses are babies - their skeletons are still developing, and too much stress (like too many triple jumps as a young adolescent skater) can lead to fractures.
