Re: Racecar Alexei

Alexei skated his new SP best in the show Expression On Ice. He was on fire there. His every single move was perfect (it was the first time when I got into those moves he does with his hands, lol, I LOVED the cigarette butt throwing gesture), he really drew the audience into it, and it looked like he had fun himself. And if I remember correctly he did all his jumps, including a quad. In Spokane he was indeed quite slow. I liked the version I saw in the SOI broadcast, although I think it's still too intense for his hip. He could be much slower and do only doubles and it still would be great.

Back to SOI: I'm very happy they have B&S, I love watching them skate. The Elvis/Marylin number, while not great, it's still OK, and it looks like Anton's having a lot of fun being Elvis. Elena doesn't do a good Marilyn, but the number is still quite enjoyable. Do they have another solo program, though? I heard they're going to skate "Meditation" too.

I didn't notice anything particularly "gay" in the cowboy routine, well, maybe with the exception of this little slide between "your partner's tights" ;) , but I too thought the whole number was done with tongue in cheek. They <em>definitely</em> got my (woman's) attention. :p But I still want to strangle the cameramen, and the person who did the editing. It reminded me of some kind of disco; they would blind you with random images, without showing anything in particular. Btw, IMO the person who had the most fun with the number was Kurt. Kurt, if you're listening, I don't want you sitting on my lap in those baggy pants, but I'll take this looong spread eagle in the cowboy outfit in front of me anytime. ;)

I also enjoyed Todd's programs, and I can't wait to see S&P in person. Whoo!

Ride em Cowboy

I had fun watching this program. I think this is the 1st time that SOI has had all the eye candy on ice for us ladies. Usually, there's a group number that involves all the ladies in a medley. This is the 1st time that I can remember having most of the men out there together without a lady in sight.

I'm not sure if the camera men really goofed. I have a feeling that there was a lot of theatrical lighting which made it harder to tape and edit cohesively.

I enjoyed M&S's I'm Your Man. It was a little more playful than their typical romantic ballad.

There were a lot of commercials and the show is usually 2 1/2 hours with intermission. So, I'm suspect that we didn't see everything.

Program

If you get the souvenir program, check the page on Katarina Witt. It says...

"Katarina Witt is the only living two time Olympic Champion singles figure skater."

Ummm... I wonder what Mr. Button will say about this.

Yes, that is a classic Gary Beacom program and as you say his "signature" piece. I can't imagine anyone else skating to it. Did you know the music is a Lenord Cohen piece? As for the comments on Kurt: I love his clown program. It's a classic.

The guys were great! even a bit competitive, but hey, that's what guys are all about. It was John Z's number. Who choreographed it?

Skate 'em Cowboys

I think Sandra Bezic choreographed the cowboys piece, at least from what I can surmise. Anybody who has been to SOI and has a program would have the choreographer listed. Anyway, I heard Bezic say in an interview that when she saw this year's cast she knew she wanted to do a piece with all the guys, or at least most of them.

I can't wait to see the show in person. TV is ok, but, nothing compares to seeing it live. I thought the routine with Todd=E&A=J&D=was really really good. I like it with all the pairs, it's different. The cowboy routine was awesome. I enjoyed the whole show.
March is a long ways off for me to have to wait to see the show in person (that's when they come to Mass.) but I have something to look forward to.

Re: Gay Rodeo

[c]<font size=4><font color="#9000C0">I finally found time to watch this thing today. (I taped it, but was too busy the last couple of days). First of all, for those of you who keep track of things like this (like Fetal), the only cowboy hat that didn't stay attached at the end was Gorsha Sur's. I'll bet he's probably going to spend the rest of his life trying to live that down! I also noticed that Todd Eldredge and Anton Sikharulidze chose not to participate in the routine. Well, Todd has a good reason...He's a clockwise skater, and all the others would've had to skate around it. But apparently Anton actually has a sense of dignity.
<font color="#008000">I don't think I'll be paying to see it live this year (it'll be in L.A. in a week or so). The ratio of Women to Men does not favor heterosexual males in the audience this time around.

Re: Gay Rodeo

How do you know Todd and Anton were the ones that chose to not skate in this and that it wasn't the choreographer or someone else?

Re: Gay Rodeo

Mine too, more or less. I'm still trying to figure out what this board is all about, but it sure seems like there's a lot of moral judgment going around here and often it's more important than the skating itself.

Anyway, "knowing" Anton I don't think he would have anything against this number. I'm sure he has a sense of dignity, but I doubt that skating in this number would have had anything to do with it. Why would it? Oh, because they behaved like gay men, is that it? And "real men" don't do anything that might even remotely resemble anything that gay men might do? LOL, it's not uncommon for men in Russia to kiss one another on the mouth. Oh, I know, they're all gay anyway. ;)

Re: Gay Rodeo

Windspirit5, who is the person's legs and skates belong to in your picture?

Why do we care whether these guys are gay or not? I think that it shows that they are comfortable with whatever or whomever they are to portray this "Gay Rodeo", if that's what it is. I guess I never really thought about it that much.

Windspirit, there really isn't that much judging on this board as there is on some boards. Stick around for a while.

Re: Gay Rodeo

About this gay rumour...yes I am gonna call it a rumour because it is not true just some people passing judgment before looking a little more closely to what is actually going on. Here are some facts that might help.

- in case some of you didn't know, "A little less conversation" has two parts:

1. the guys part - the one that NBC aired
2. and the ladies part - this was not aired.

So right there you have a great mixture of men and women. Now, I am hoping that with this 'new information' the rumour will die. The funny thing is that I don't see fans who attended SOI saying the cowboy number is gay. It is always those who watched the show on tv.

- before we turn this thread upside down by discussing manhood along nationalities as in Russian vs Canadian or American...it might help to remember this is a skating forum!!!

Back to skating, for your information, Elena is part of the cowboy number. Go figure.

And why isn't "Divas on Ice," an all-girl show, thought of as Lipstick Lesbians on Ice?:p

Re: Gay Rodeo

Whether there are girls or not in this number is not the point. Some people just forget that what they consider "gay" is just their private social conditioning, it's not necessarily true. It might be, but often it's not. If someone's bored enough to even consider whether something's gay or not, they have to take more into a consideration than: "I'm a heterosexual man, and I don't see anything there to arouse me, so it's definitely not for straight men, which makes it gay." Obviously they're not aware of the fact that many women too like to look at men shaking their groove things, and even doing ::gasp:: pelvic thrusts or whatever, and that straight men can and often do it for them.

Rgirl, the answer to your question would be: because very straight men get aroused by "girls only things" too. Listen to very straight men to tell you what's gay and what's not. ;)

Dee, the legs in my pic belong to Yags.

Re: Gay Rodeo

rgirl,

I only saw the last bit of Divas on Ice, they never did have their faces in each other's crotches. I'll call it dykes on ice soon enough if they hump each other enough, a little breast tweaking would help, too.

Everybody else,

Yeah, ok, the guys are skating around in a circle with their fingers up each other's *#&$* and it's perfectly hetero, sure.

Re: Gay Rodeo

Fetal, who said it was perfectly heterosexual? I'm sure you know that when people question someone's particular arguments it doesn't automatically mean they hold the opposite opinion.

Did I think some things in that routine looked "gay"? Yes. Do they make the whole number gay? Nah. Btw, that <em>"with their fingers up each other's *#&$*"</em> in your post intrigued me enough to go back and watch the whole thing again. Anyway, there're two things there I might consider "gay" if I had to, and both were done by Kurt. I'd noticed before he's very comfortable around males, and I don't know if he's bi or just secure enough about his (hetero) sexuality, nor do I really care. It still doesn't make this number gay to me.

Personally I find it rather amusing when people have those knee-jerk reactions and jump to conclusions. As for this either gay or straight thing, I'm with Kinsey on that one. The things are not either black or white or "The world is not to be divided into sheep and goats", if you will. On the Kinsey scale I would give the cowboy number a 1.2 <em>at best</em>.
