I am in the process of buying my daughter new boots and blades in the next few months. I am getting pretty knowledgable about boots but blades are another story. I pretty much listened to the skate fitter the last time and then went up one category but I still didn't like the blades very much. They were Ultima blades and I felt there was not quite enough pick for her. In the beginning there was but she didn't grow much and got a year and 1/2 out of her last skates. Now she has improved so much and has all her single jumps including the axel and worked on doubles the last few months of skating. So now I need to decide what is a good blade for her? And what about the rocker? What should that be? Most of the kids have ISE or Ultima blades at our club but I'd like to learn more information about blades so that I can best get her suited for the new skating season. Help please.

Why don't you see what her coach suggests? Usually when I have skaters at roughly the same level as your daughter the coach has some kind of opinion about their next blade.

We seem to sell more Coronation Aces than anything. We also sell some of the Ultima blades, but people have been complaining that the plating falls off. However, I would also think that Jackson fixed this problem since so many skaters were returning their blades.

Old people (such as myself) usually skate in Phantoms. In my class of 7 we have 2 Phantom K-Picks, 2 Phantoms, 2 Gold Seals, and some version of Ultima.

Well, megsk8z is the expert *is still happily skating on her Wilson dance blades*. I will say I had a problem with Ultima blades--the plating did flake off, and they only lasted nine months. Some other people at one of my rinks have had similar issues with Ultimas. Though I admit mine were Mirages, one of the cheapest they make.

Ask the coach about brands and levels s/he would recommend. You might also ask other parents why they've bought the blades they did.

Just thought I would offer my 2 cents.

The year after my little one started landing her axel and working on doubles, we went to an MK Professional blade.

The next season we went to an MK Vision. Both of those blades were perfect for the levels she was at, so this year we continued on with the Vision blade. Excellent product and no problems with adjustment time at all.

This blade will take her right through her doubles - right now she is landing sal, toe, and loop, and flip is just about there.
