I do not have any reason to suppose that the Tech Specialists are any more (or less) competant or any more (or less) honest than the judges are, but at least they are not under the thumb of any particular National Federation.
That I think "helps, maybe not cures - cure would be impossible IMO with Judging of any type - but "helps" was really the one factor I feel comfortable saying the CoP is "better" - regarding that aspect alone. That is why I didn't feel it was fair for her to say the CoP has made nothing better, even as far a worse. This single aspect is better than before. Did cause other issues but I still feel it can create more trust in the system then before.
I am not so sure that your vignette about Vinnie tells the true story, though. Sometimes the judge is Vinnie.

Again you crack me up at the same time you make an excellent point. I guess monitoring gambling of said "Vinni" and as stated bellow in the anonymous and obvious you were bias review regarding the scores. Vinni score -1 on the same thing the others scored +1 and +2, etc...
Plus, it is pretty easy to figure out what the judges did despite the attempt at secrecy.
BTW, there is one really good argument in favor of secret judging. That is the review process that takes place after each competition and at the end of the season. If a judge's marks do not keep pace with his companions' (perhaps he hears a different drummer), he/she is called on the carpet and faces various sanctions and penalties.
The first part of this procedure (unless the judge appeals) is all anonymous. The referees sitiing in judgment of the judges do not know which of their friends they are about to throw the book at. So that's all to the better.
I was under the impression that there was still that ability to review under GoE, but I might be wrong.
I guess the worst thing that a Judge could hear would be their name singled out for questioning. I wonder of said Q could stop and pending procedures that may have regard to the competitions?
This is the point. Arakawa and Cohen weren't affected that much by COP, because they come from the old guard, the old 6.0 system. They just adjusted their program to be more COP friendly. COP isn't hurting the old skaters, but the newest one, who will train just the elements that will earn more points, turning them in machines not artists.
I really hope I'm wrong.
That is exactly how I feel, yet
is that just my opinion or the thing that is hurting FS alone? This is where I really hope I personally am not misunderstood. A large majority of general viewers / sports fans did not regard FS as having all that much integrity in the first place and
will this bring them to feel more comfortable in the Judging process
, or is it going to drive out the Artistic factor from FS making it a robotic competition? I like whaching robot competitions only when there are real robots involved.
And I don't think there is a cure that is going to make everyone happy that is presented itself
as of yet. But the GoP being
so much better Then the CoP???? I don't know, there were Neg and Pos both ways IMO. Maybe if we keep "squaking" there will eventually be a nice in-between that is "
less corruptible" and
still embody the spirt of Artistic impression as a determining factor equally - the true essence of FS to me.
Art has been sacrificed and
I don't like that, but corruptibility potential has been lessened and that may be the one plus at this point.
The issue I had - simply as I can put it - is the comment of the CoP not doing anything good and how she was using the facts. Great points in there, but
so negative, I felt it was hard to say that it wasn't just as opinionated and skewed as the issues that brought the change in the first place. Not a well rounded opinion IMO
