Hi All, and thanks for the input. I really appreciate it.
I knew about the site above. He is a promoter.
I happen to own horses of this breed, and some of us are concerned about the
use of the horses on ice. It is pretty hard on their legs. The horse's
foot slides into place, and when you use hoof nails, it makes the hoof grab
in flight, and sends a torque up the horse's leg. The pounding of the hoof
on a hard surface can also cause concussive founder.
The US stopped the practice of horse racing on ice about 200 years ago.
We are just concerned for the horse. Yes, they do this in Iceland, but in
Iceland they have an overabundance of horses, and they are quite disposable,
and as part of their culture, they eat them; they are raised for meat.
Someone else found this for me:
"The world famous Ice Capades contracts with Icelandics on Ice
Ice Capades is the world's most famous show of all times to be
performed on ice and in all probability is the best known show in the
world. This show which was previously owned by Fox Entertainment is
now the property of Dick Garden and his family, which also owns and
operates a circus and other shows.
Dick Garden is now here in Iceland. The purpose of his visit is to
finalize a contract with the Icelandic horse show, Icelandics on Ice.
The contract provides for Icelandics on Ice to participate next winter
in more than one hundred shows in the United States with Ice Capades.
The history of this show spans almost 70 years and the show has
undertaken exhibition tours in more than 40 countries, becoming world
famous over the years. The show is a very well known trademark in the
United States and has, among other things, been featured in more than
one hundred movies. In the exhibition year 2007 to 2008 the show will
be presented in a completely new fashion.
Performances will be presented on a giant screen which has been
especially designed to satisfy all the demands of Ice Capades. It can
accommodate more than two thousand spectators and is equipped with a
comprehensive computerized weather management system. This makes it
possible to generate wind, snow, fog and various light conditions.
Also the sound and light system is the most perfect one available.
The whole show is presented on ice on three different platforms and is
accompanied by its own orchestra. Ice making machines which produce
more than 200 tons of ice a day are part of the show’s complex
technical equipment. About one hundred and fifty individuals of
various nationalities are associated with each performance.
Icelandics on Ice will provide 12 horses together with ten riders.
The Icelandic horses are the only horses in the show.
The performers in the Icelandics on Ice group are: Árni Sigfús
Birgisson, Dagbjört Rós Helgadóttir, Freyja Amble Gísladóttir, Elka
Halldórsdóttir, Hekla Hermundsdóttir, Lina Eriksson, Sjöfn
Sæmundsdóttir, Snorri Jóhannsson, Tinna Madesen and Þórhallur
Guðmundsson. Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir is also a member of the
group, but she will be handling special projects relating to public
relations and other aspects in cooperation with Ice Capades.
The Icelandic group will be leaving for New York next October and is
scheduled to make its debut on ice in Central Park as part of a
publicity event organized by Ice Capades.
From New York the group will travel to Phoenix in Arizona, where it
will be in training for five weeks. Then there will follow shows in
Scottsdale, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Seattle, Chicago,
Houston, Dallas, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, New York, and
Atlanta.
In Los Angeles, Ice Capades will organize a charity exhibition under
the title The Stars Shine, which will be attended by famous movie
actors, directors and nationally famous individuals. The organizers
of Ice Capades have high expectations of this joint effort and will
advertize the Icelandic horse as their principal drawing card. This
project is certain to generate by far the greatest publicity ever
given to the Icelandic horse in the United States. The show contract
envisages that the joint effort will extend into the year 2011.

So, who the heck are the Ice Capades? and who is Dick Garden?
Thanks for any input.
