Having been forced by the power of NBC replay to see this fall MANY times, I am convinced it was her fault. She jumped too hard onto him and knocked him off balance.
when i learned salsa, the first thing that the teachers taught us was that both should kindly smile at our partners even when they mess up.
my teachers also said that whenever we mess up, it is always the gentleman's fault who could not understand and better help the lady with her weaknesses so that he should say "don't worry" "no problem" or even "sorry" when the lady messes up
The gentleman has all the responsibility including protecting the lady from dangers such as a crash with other couples etc, not to mention a fall on their part. the gentleman should flexibly adjust himself to different heights and different styles of the ladies so that he could best lead each of them. Then the lady should just smilingly follow his lead and enjoy herself without thinking anything. my tango teacher even said that the lady could close her eyes and just follow his moves. of course these are a bit of exaggeration since ladies also need to learn steps to follow his lead. she also needs to be really attentive.
but i think these still capture some truth because when the gentleman is a good dancer, he can dance fairly well even with a lady who only knows basics. but when the gentleman is a beginner, they just completely dead stuck. i think that the gentleman has a lot more responsibility in partner dances because he leads.
i do not know ice dancing so that i do not know if these apply to it. i certainly would not imagine that these would be the case when you do competitively. but i still imagine that the gentleman may need to assume a greater responsibility because he would be the one who leads, isn't he?
