Ladies - Free Skate - 11/27

Mirai had two under-rotations (her 3T in the 2A-3T combo and her 3Lz), two edge calls (both Lutzes) and her Layback was called a Level 1 with pretty big negative GOE. Element was worth only 0.81 points after the fact.

I am happy that Mao scored better here than at NHK. I hope she keeps getting better and better :D Second place in the SP seems to be a good place for Mirai to skate.

Another inexplicable result, thanks to COP. Oh well, it's just a silly Grand Prix event and Mirai and Alissa are both on the podium.

Overall, this was a decent skate from Kiira, one of the best I have seen from her in quite some time. She really does have a great presence on the ice, solid ice coverage and speed.

I think she needs to botch the Flip jump. No longer consistent with it as she used to be, and replace it with a 2nd Triple Loop.

Hoping that both Meite and LaFuente can crack the Top 10 at Euro's this year. Great skate from both.

Mirai's lutz needs to be fixed! It's very close to an outside edge, she definitely can.

Her layback, well, that was expected, she had to stop the spin.
I thought her 2A-3T looked OK, but the judges have a different view on the replay than me

ISU GP Standings have been updated!

http://www.isuresults.com/events/gp2010/gpsladies.htm

Alyssa as the 2nd qualifier behind Miki but ahead of Carolina, Kanako, Akiko, and Rachael, with Kiira, Mirai, and Ashley as alternates.

Absolutely crazy that the magic number was 26 this year. I guess that's what happens when you don't have any absolute favorites taking up all the 15s as we have in previous years.

Protocols:

Mirai -- lost points for TWO edge call (2.6), UR 3T in second combo (1.77) and lvl 1 spin (about 3.3 given what I know what she can do)

Kiira -- that 3-3 did help her, no edge calls and decent GOE plus the higher PCS (overscored if you ask me)

Alissa -- interesting two edge calls; but they counted that boutch toe jump as a double..But yes her spins and spirals definitely helped her here. I think the PCS is justified here.

Mao Asada -- ah, edge call on the lutz, not out of the woods yet. But she did manage to do four clean triples (of course includes one with the edge call, but it's still a triple so I'll count it). Sad that we're talking about this with Mao. But her spins and spirals helped her too. PCS helped too.

Triple count: Not including falls, UR and edge calls

Kiira -- 5 triples
Cynthia -- 5 triples
Mae Berenice -- 5 triples
Alissa -- 3 triples (4 if not for edge call)
Mirai -- 3 triples (6 if not for UR/edge)
Mao -- 3 triples (4 if not for edge)
Sonia -- 4 triples
Haruka -- 2 triples (5 if not for edge, UR, DG)
Sarah -- 3 triples (4 if not for UR)
Lena -- 3 triples
Candice -- 2 triples
Fumie -- 1 triple (3 if not for edge call)

or rather an inexplicable result thanks to the judges.

In any case I'm happy Mirai got her medal, I think it's her first, right? hopefully the first of many more :-)

I'm glad Kiira finally won one! Especially since even if Mirai won, she would not have made the final, and the things they dinged her for, were real on the 2 lutzes and the spin. I've got to take another look at the 2a3t though.

To think Mirai lost on something that she is better at then just about any other skater in the world. Her layback.

Yes, I was initally outraged, but I think after looking at the protocals, I can see how Mirai lost. But yet that 3T looked clean to me. She basically would have won if it was not for that super uncharacteristic spin error.

Alissa may be in the gpf, being overscored big time the the judges who were probably high, drunk or stoned, but i don't worry about that cause what is Alissa going to achieve in the gpf,the highest she can end up is 5th place.

Yeah, its not the judges that are picking on Mirai, it is the technical callers.

I think the reason Mirai gets so many UR calls because of the way she reaches down with her toe pick a little prematurely. Mao Asada does, too. If the caller measures the rotation in the air only up to the first tippy-toe touch, then almost all of Mirai's jumps are under-rotated.

...I don't worry about that cause what is Alissa going to achieve in the gpf,the highest she can end up is 5th place.

Just for that I am going to root for Alissa to finish fourth!

Mirai seems to be slower then in past years especially in her spins. Not sure why. I'm not liking her programs this year either she needs something more uptempo. The slow music in both programs might be slowing her down too.

I think the PCS was judged fairly for the most part.

Kiira was over scored slightly, but not ridiculously. I would dock her down a point or two, particularity in Transitions, Skating Skills and Interpretation.
Alissa and Mao, while the jumps were not there (maybe a lower P/E mark) still had great artistry in their programs, so I say their PCS marks are fair.
Mirai's seem pretty fair.
Actually the one I think was most gifted was Fumie did not deserve 50 PCS (Some gave her 7s, what the heck?) especially compared to Mae Berenice. She definitely got some reputation PCS.
