2013 JGP and JW Representatives

This articles assumes that the ISU does not change the rules over the summer but here goes
JW slots
The JW slots for 2013 are determined this way.
Case 1. One entrtant from the country.
A top 2 finish means 3 entries . A top 10 finish means 2 entries. Any lower means 1 entry.
Case 2. 2 or 3 entrants from the country.
The top 2 placements for the country are summed up.
Top 16 placements are given the points of their placement.
Lower than top 16 ( but making the FS ) is given 16 points.
Making the short program ( but not making the FS ) is given 18 points.
Failing the qualifying round is given 20 points.
So the sums work this way for the point totals of the top 2 entries for the country.
1. 13 points or less - 3 entries.
2. 14 - 28 points - 2 entries
3. More than 28 points - 1 entry
IOW the JW spots are determined pretty much the same way the senior world spots are.
JW slots

Now for the post on JGP slots.
For JGP slots only the top finisher per country is considered.
First you have to isolate the top finisher in each country and create a new final standings list consisting of only the top finisher of each country. This is the list that the JGP slots will be based on.
Case 1. Singles and ice dance.
Top 3 countries get 14 slots in the form of 2 JGP slots per event.
Countries 4-6 get 7 slots in the form of 1 JGP slot per event.
Countries 7-12 get 6 slots ( 1 entry in 6 events )
Countries outside the top 12 ( but making the FS ) will get 5 slots.
Countries failling to make the FS ( but either made qualifying got a bye to the SD/SP ) or will get 4 slots.
Countries failing to get out of qualifying will get 3 slots.
All countries that did not send any entries to JW will get 2 slots.
Countries 4 and 5 might get extra slots if one of the top 3 countries is unable to use all their slots but they will not have more than 2 entries in a JGP.
The other thing is that a host country gets to send 3 entries to their event no matter where they stand here.
Case 2. Pairs
Top 5 countries get 3 slots per JGP.
Countries 6-10 get 2 slots per JGP.
All other countries get 1 slot per JGP.
A host country can send unlimited entries to their event.

Just to add a tiny bit of information to nadster's excellent post, there are usually only 4 events where the pairs discipline is contested, which I believe reflects the lesser number of junior pairs teams which are competing internationally.
