Both Luc Maierhofer and Sophia Schaller are entered to compete in singles and pairs.
All pairs entered have at least one partner also competing as a singles skater. :oops:

Daniel and Anna Ruis are doing advanced novice pairs together, with Daniel also doing junior men and Anna intermediate novice women, and Raphaela and Jonathan Aschl are doing basic novices as a pair and intermediate novices as single skaters.

Edit: OMG, the Hubers are also doing pairs in the Special Olympics program, not just Ice Dance? Patrik is skating with a different girl, and Corinna is skating with the third Huber sibling, Dominik.

Yes, I also noticed the Hubers doing the Special Olympics as well with their respective partners. Great mindset and exemplary sportsmanship!
Btw, the two Huber brothers are also competing successfully in sailing. They must like doing sports on water, both in liquid and frozen form. :laugh:

That's going to be busy days 🙂
And yes, for small skating countries that might not be extremely uncommon to have skaters enter two categories. The fields are small.

So now they finally have the pages online, I added the Links in post #1
and will put them here again:

Austrian Open (Special Olympics): http://skateaustria.vs91-250-98-130.cloud-he.de/img/competition/8.2022_23/061/index.htm

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Austrian Open took place today and is already finished.
Dominik Huber, sibling of Corinna and Patrik Huber, won his singles and he won the Unified pairs (btw similar to what Skate Canada is trying to do domestically now as they also pair up same sex couples) together with his sister Corinna.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nationals started with Advanced Novice and Juniors SP.
In the lead:
Eles NAMAZALIEVA in AdN Girls - 33.34
Hannah FRANK in JunW - 49.30 (PB 46.18)

Michail SAVENKOV is the only competitor in AdN Boys - 28.25
Tobia OELLERER is the only competitor in JunM - 59.21 (PB 53.12)

I see Patrik was also competing in the Unified Pairs, partnering Sabrina Katharina BICHLMAIR. They finished 5th out of the 6 partnerships. Incidentally, Sabrina finished 3rd in the Level 1 Ladies competition.

Well done to Corinna and Patrik. It is admirable enough that they are helping their brother out at the same time as they are making so much progress in Ice Dance on the mainstream international stage, but it really shows their support for the whole Special Olympics movement that they are also helping out other people with learning disabilities.

:bow: :clap: :points:

And well done to Skate Austria for including Special Olympics competitions as part of their flagship event. It should hopefully really raise the profile of this branch of the sport.

Day 2 brought winners in Adv Nov and Juniors and the competition for Junior Pair and Senior Pair started.
Yes, one entry each, but hey we are glad we have those categories, that's not a given in Austria.

Eles NAMAZALIEVA won the FS after the SP with 59.36
Podium Avd Nov Girls: NAMAZALIEVA 92.70, NIEDERLEITNER 88.16, REBERNIG 80.12

Podium Juniors Women: FRANK 132.92 [PB 128.74], SCHALLER 126.24 [94.94], LEITGEB 123.44 [120.72]

It looks like Tobia OELLERER did not skate the FS.

I am not familiar with the winner of Senior Women competition. Is the result a surprise?

I just looked at her Rink Results page, and I would tend to agree that it is a surprise. Especially since this is her first season in Seniors.

Emily SAARI is actually from Michigan, and switched to representing Austria when she moved up to Juniors in the 2019-20 season. And I vaguely remember commenting at the time that when I first saw her name, I had assumed that she was Finnish. So, it came as a surprise to find out that her heritage actually lay in Austria.

But, that's about all I know about her.

Okay, so short recap.

ID FD
Juniors
Anita STRAUB / Andreas STRAUB got 77.07 [PB 76.00] and have a total of 128.21 [125.47]
Seniors
Corinna HUBER / Patrik HUBER got 69.32 [57.83] and have a total of 116.48 [88.58]

Singles
Women FS
Emily SAARI won the FS with 108.44 [90.09]
Totals:
Emily SAARI 161.41 [138.98], Sophia SCHALLER 153.27 [159.08], Stefanie PESENDORFER 150.83 [154.31]

Men FS
Maurizio ZANDRON won the FS with 154.34 [145.17]
Totals:
Maurizio ZANDRON 234.93 [228.27], Luc MAIERHOFER 212.98 [201.53], Anton SKOFICZ 131.52 [123.37]

So, as analysis for the Women I'd say that there's some factors coming together. Olga was not there, so the pressure got higher, esp. on the more experienced skaters.
- Stefanie actually came there as the defending champion which was a bit of an unexpected win last year when she did really well and Olga had still some issues from her injury.
- Sophia (along with Luc Maierhofer!) skated two events here.
- Emily however had three international events this season before the Nationals and was buildung up confidence with each one, her top scores are from IceChallenge just some weeks ago where she did not skate a 100%.

You can see that the PBs were clearly on Sophia's and Stefanie's side but they made mistakes and Emily did not and had the momentum on her side (and is at a clear developing stage), just like Stefanie had last year.
I was plesantly surprised to see her on the list as she did not come for Nationals in Juniors. But we may see more of her in Austria from this season on as I'm sure she has more travel options at her age now than she maybe had before.

We don't know what Emily has actually planned for the season, it could also be an option to waive at being sent to this ot that comp when it does not fit into her season plans and changes in the states with education etc.
Who knows, we'll see what they will go for and in any case, Austria can be proud of who will show up at the big comps. It's very exciting to have real internal competition, to have options and also equal substitutes. :cheer2:
