The Senior competitions start on 5[SUP]th[/SUP] December 2017 at 19:32 AEST (09:32 GMT) with the Short Dance.

So, the target time to get your predictions in is 1 hour before that, i.e. 18:32 AEST (08:32 GMT).

As you know, I am a big Kailani fan. So, I would have been putting her at the top of my Ladies predictions even if Brooklee hadn’t been injured (get well soon!)

But, deciding on the remaining podium positions between Pasfield and Jackson was tough. Because they are both very promising young skaters.

In the end, I went for Jackson, because she has done more competitions in the past year than Pasfield (5 for Amelia, as opposed to 2 for Katie, according to Rink Results). I don’t know for sure, but given that Katie didn’t do any competitions for 9 months, it looks suspiciously like she was out injured.

Next came the two foreigners. And I put the Kiwi ahead of the American. Although Cierra has the higher absolute PB, it is pretty old (from October 2014). Whereas Brooke has been doing more competitions in recent years, and scoring higher at them.

Sarah Cullen finished third in the New Zealand Nationals last month, so it was logical to put her behind the champion at this competition too. (Has Sarah switched countries, because Rink Results have her down as representing New Zealand? It might just be an error, though, due to her doing those Kiwi Nationals). And although their careers have pretty much mirrored each other on different sides of the Pacific, Nelson’s scores have always been higher than Cullen’s.

Jennifer Toms rounds up the field. Although she was ahead of Cullen last year, it wasn’t by much (just over half a point). And I feel that Cullen doing the Kiwi Nationals recently will give her the edge.

Men is going to be interesting! Especially with so many members of the Dodds family up against each other!

Going into this, I knew who I was putting onto the podium, and in what order. But, I hadn’t a clue for the rest. 2 of the skaters I hadn’t come across before, and then there were the Dodds boys. And with so many of them, I do find it hard to keep track of which is which.

In the end, I decided to cop out and go by the absolute PB for the non-podium positions. And it made sense because, apart from the bottom two, they were well spaced out. But I found it interesting that one of the skaters I was unfamiliar with, Charlton Doherty, was splitting the Dodds boys.

As with the British Championships, there were no surprises in my predictions for the Pairs competition here. A win for the Dodds who is not doing Singles at Nationals this year, Matthew.

And for Dance, I also went for a Dodds win. This time Andrew, who I predicted to just miss out on the podium in Singles.

Can I just add, although I am not her biggest fan, I am nevertheless disappointed that Chantelle Kerry is not doing Singles at Nationals this year. Yes, she is hands down favourite to get a gold in Dance. But, she would definitely have been in the mix for a medal, maybe even the gold, in Ladies.

But, I can understand her wanting to focus on one category.
