USFS and Ice Network are asserting their US broadcast rights to the entire Grand Prix Series by having youtube remove the videos of current season performances and cancelling the accounts of those who had a few current season dances uploaded. Therefore, I will not be posting links to current season performances, unless they were at club competitions like Liberty and LPIDC or at summer national or international competitions like Nebelhorn, Karl Schaefer Memorial or Masters de Patinage.

For teams who did not compete their new programs in any summer or national events, I will post photos of them in the costumes they used, if I can find them.

For those who have forgotten, they will be waltzing in Russia this week to the Viennese Waltz. I have updated the reference file to
remove videos of lovely Viennese waltzes from past experts that are no longer on youtube. I have also added some few replacements.

1 Allie HANN-McCURDY / Michael CORENO CAN 1
They are a couple on and off the ice. Allie and Michael did not have a high finish at Skate America, despite having a very promising year last year. . I hope that they will be able to improve on that performance in Russia, but it's also a strong field here, as it was at Skate America. Really, Allie and Michael had no luck in the event assignments at all.

Coach and Choreographer: Viktor Kraatz and Maikki Uotila Kraatz, Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe for their OD last year.

2 Zoe BLANC / Pierre-Loup BOUQUET FRA 2

This team appears to specialize in presenting different programs. Sometimes they try a little bit too hard. Their "French rap" free dance is a bit difficult to follow for those of us who do not speak French. In fact, as the gentlemen reciting the words in their song sounds like a local guy reciting poems in a coffeehouse, I was happy to find a youtube of their Master de Patinage FD which has an English translation of what is being said. If you too are curious what this dance is all about, you should check it out.

In their paso doble CD, Zoe wore a black dress, with a flapping rag skirt, and pseudo black elbow high gloves. The hands were not covered by the gloves. The back of the dress had a vee all the way down to the small of her back. A matching vee proceeded upward in the skirt to the same spot, where the only opaque item appeared to be a flashy brooch. Thank goodness for illusion fabric, because if this were real, that brooch could well break, causing the whole dress to fall off.

Pierre Loup was dressed in a black and red matador outfit. The black bolero jacket had very odd crenellations along its edge and red epaulets with large sequins and two red stripes down the sleeves over a red vest with four patches of black tassels over his abdomen with a white dickey underneath it.

In their OD, Zoe wore a powderpuff pink layered flapper dress, black elbow high gloves and pearls. Pierre-Loup wore a dark pin stripe vest with a black tie and a pink shirt. All this pink (and black) appears to have been chosen to contrast with "Black and Blues"

In their FD, Pierre-Loup is wearing a white practice suit affair with one sleeve missing. It has what appears to be "Cher chercher" written in large black letters down the leg. He has something that looks like a large squarish Chinese character on the back, and several other unidentifiable pieces of graffiti. Zoe is wearing a white dress with a rag skirt with similar graffiti. Her white tights also have something written on it, but from a distance, it appears to be a huge ladder in her tights, which is perhaps not the effect they intended.

3 Alexandra ZARETSKI / Roman ZARETSKI ISR 3
Alexandra and Roman competed at Nebelhorn this summer and finished second behind Samuelson / Bates. They won the Viennese Waltz over S/B however. However, their CoC performance was a minor disaster. Their training has apparently been affected quite a lot by the suit against their rink. That's too bad, because they seemed to really be making good progress last season. I see Tarasova is one of their choreographers. I'm beginning to wonder whether her involvement in the choreo of a skater she is not actively coaching is the true kiss of death.

Coach: Galit Chait
Choreographer: Galit Chait & Tatiana Tarasova (FD)
Former Coach: N. Morozov, E. Platov, I .Zaretski, I. Romanova, I. Yaroshenko
Training Town: Hackensack, NJ (USA)
Born in Minsk, BLR

OD: Summertime by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald & Fosse (Blues & Charleston)
FD: Jesus Christ Superstar (soundtrack) by Andrew Lloyd Webber
The Zaretskis see it as a historical reflection of Israel, where their family has lived for almost 17 years.

4 Anna CAPPELLINI / Luca LANOTTE ITA 4

Capellini and Lanotte were 10th at Worlds. I like their programs better than Faiella and Scali's. It should be an interesting Italian championships this year. Their performance at CoC was very strong, and finishing fourth in a field that stacked was quite an accomplishment. The British Eurosport commentators kept going on about how much they liked C&L throughout the performances of the 2 or 3 teams ahead of them in both the OD and the FD. And C&L got very high levels for their programs and beat K&N in the OD. D&W will need to skate very well to finish ahead of C&L. Heck K&N may have to step it up a notch.

There is no doubt that has been a difficult year for Oksana and Maxim, but it hasn't affected their winning ways. Even with their costumes not finished and no kefir available in the Wilds of Aston, PA, they came to Cup of China and won. I'm sure Maxim's knees will be even stronger and their dances better as his rehab progresses.

Here on their home turf, they should be unbeatable. I do hope she will have found a more attractive outfit for the Viennese though, and some costume at all for Maxim, who appeared to be skating in outfits from Dick's Sporting Goods in both the CD and OD. Apparently, Oksana's dress for the CD was cut down from one in a catalog. I hope their real costumes will be seen here.

CD - I could not find a photo of their CD outfit. Apparently, they have had not enough time yet to prepare costumes. Oksana cut down a dress she bought from a catalog. Max appears to
be wearing a version of the Maytag man's uniform while she is in a dress with a black feathered top and a white feathered skirt with some sort of bauble stuck next to her eye and scraps from the dress pinned in her hair.
It's puzzling attire, and I suspect it will look vastly different at COR.
OD-They are a couple from perhaps the 1940's in winter. She is wearing a Sonia Henie skating outfit, he a newsboy cap and bright scarf.

FD-They are done up in kind of stripy ice dance illusion bondage attire. They're doing Spartacus, of course.

Their best element was their fifth element, the straight line lift. It one 3, 2 one's and the rest 2's.
Their first element, the Mid Line step not touching also scored mostly 2's.
They had a problem with the fourth element, the circular step, scoring three -1's.
This program is quite new, and you should expect their element levels will be higher, and their performance more spectacular, here at CoR.

I found their costume choices in both the OD and the FD to be quite peculiar. The last tutu in ice dance that I saw was worn by Natalia Bestemianova (or perhaps by Debi Thomas in her Wanda Beazel routine. It was about the same time)

Their lifts were the best part of the program, but I wonder whether these programs will have major changes coming. They did not seem quite finished somehow to me.

Jana and Sergei had a significant problem with the second element, the synchronized twizzle. They received three -2's, one 0, and the rest -1's. Only one element is level four. As a result, they were in fourth place in this part of the CoC. I expect to see significant improvement here at CoR.
Their best element was the Straight Line Lift, element 3, which earned four 2's.

This is a relatively new pairing. As such, their second place finish at Finlandia (behind the Kerrs and ahead of Gorshkova & Butikov) is very, very commendable. This is their first GP appearance.
I thought their FD well-skated, but boring. OTOH, I really enjoyed the OD, other than that the ending moves were a little rough at Finlandia.
They finished 5th at Russian Nationals, behind Rubleva/Shefer and Bobrova /Soloviev, though. I like their OD a lot bettr than either R/S or B/S's.

Another ice dance team training in the US. Furthermore, I see both Morozov & Galit Chait are involved with their coaching as well as that of the Zaretskis. I'm not sure what the coaching arrangement will be since all hands appear to be suing each other, and since Z&V are at about the same level as Z&Z. At Worlds, Zaretskis finished ahead. At CoC, Z&V. They have made a significant effort this year to step up the difficult of their levels.

Note that they got the Professional Skaters of America Dance award for their Kalinka OD at US Nationals last year.

This is a difficult assignment for Meryl and Charlie. I just hope that they aren't left so far behind in the CD that they can't recoup to receive the bronze medal. They had a great paso at SC, but their Austrian waltz at SA last year put them so far behind that they could not recover. The Viennese is a dance where great extension is valued, and that hasn't been their strongest suit. I'm hoping they have spent a lot of time on it. Their OD is one of the really good ones this season, and Marina really produced an engrossing FD for them. It's doing something when a group of fans from a country give you a standing ovation as you win over a a couple from the host country, as happened at Skate Canada.

I hope the Russian crowd will give them a warm welcome, too.

OD Best element
Element 1; Synchronized twizzle, one 3, four 2's, two 1's and a 0.
Worst element
Element 4; Midline step that Charlie stumbled on. They got three -1's on it.

OD Flight Plan
1 STw4
2 DiSt3
3 Sp4
4 MiStNt3
5 SlLi4
6 Li+TRANS

FD Best elements- Other than some elements that need upgrading, D&W nailed the FD. There were 3 absolutely topnotch elements.
Element 1; combination spin, all 2's
Element 2; combination lift garnered all 2's and 3's
Element 5; synchronized twizzle, all 2's except one 1
Something obviously went wrong with the last lift (level 1, Hello), but curiously except for one judge, the GOE doesn't reflect it.

FD Flight Plan
1 CoSp4
2 CuLi4+RoLi4
3 CiSt3
4 CuLi2
5 STw4
6 SlLi4
7 MiSt3
8 RoLi1

Your first paragraph, Doris. Oh the forces of "free capitalism" really get to me.

This is really a tough field of dancers. I think Cople/Stagniunas will be special in the future. I am glad that Cap and LaN have given up on their sugary love duets, and now looking more challenging. Top scoring Russian teams and Zador/Verb (Ukrainia) will give Davis/White a run for the podium

As much as I wish DomShabs had chosen something other than a waltz, their OD really is quite charming. If they perform it well (and better than at CoC), I could see them winning that segment. I'm pretty sure they'll win the CD, barring any huge errors, and I don't know what to think about their FD. It looked very, very new at CoC so hopefully they'll be more comfortable with it here.

Davis/White are my pick for silver. I think they've got better programs than Khokhlova/Novitski (especially if you compare the ODs) and they really impressed me at SC. I'd like to see them continue making a splash this season, and am really, really hoping they've worked on extension and all that to be well prepared for the CD.

Khokhlova/Novitski-well I hated their OD and liked parts of their FD. I just might need a second viewing of both, but I really hope they've changed the OD costumes because those were just hideous. Ouch. They had a pretty good CD, and I was actually a bit surprised at their marks for it-lower than I had expected.

Capellini/Lanotte- their OD is one of my favorites this season, and their personalities really stand out in it. In the FD, not so much. While it's lovely and they skate it well, it doesn't grab hold of my attention and keep me. They may have been a little underscored in the CD.

But those are the teams I see finishing in the top 4. It's a great field all the way through IMO, and should make for an exciting competition.
Have to add: the podium I'd rather see:
Gold: Davis/White
Silver: Capellini/Lanotte
Bronze: DomShabs or Khokh/Nov.
I know it probably won't happen like that, but that's what I'd prefer.

If this competition were in the US, I'd have great hopes for D&W for silver. Here in Russia, I will be happy if they earn the bronze, especially if the Russian crowd shows signs of really liking the programs.

The Austrian and the Viennese are very similar dances, with extension and leg line being hugely important. D&W got dumped behind Fraser / Lukanin at Skate America last year in the Austrian (5th). And F/L are not a very good team. I'm hoping Meryl and Charlie can get at least a 34 here. That would be good progress for them in this sort of CD. And if they do, they have a shot at silver, but as K&N need a 2nd to make the GPF, I'd be darn surprised if D&W take the silver.

OD- she is dressed as a head of lettuce with two carrot slices stuck in the top. He appears to be Pee Wee Herman or a zootsuiter. Your choice.

:chorus:You got that spot on! They are a lovely team to watch, but that hideous green has got to go.

As for the CD this competition, D/S will likely go soaring in the lead. They've got the loveliest lines. D/W and K/N unfortunately, will be disadvantaged since it's a waltz.

 At your comment on Khoklova's costume! I totally thought of "Wanda Beazle" when I saw it!

Of course, I'm rooting for D/W...I love how they waltz, I think Charlie partners so well...here's hoping that they've worked on their extension and making the pattern sweeping and grand. I did notice how well their extension was on the back camels that they are using in the OD and FD to enter their combo spins. Just lovely! They have a terrific Paso, here's hoping the Viennese is great, too! Their OD and FD are simply spectacular.

I can't wait to see Cappellini/Lanotte again...they are also a lovely couple, I like them better than F/S.

Also hoping Allie and Michael have a better showing...they are a sweet couple and I just wish their technique was better.

My podium wish:

Gold - Davis/White
Silver - Cappellini/Lanotte
Bronze - Dom/Shabs

With this competition being held in Russia, you can expect that there will be at least 4 judges from former SSRs, and some of the other judges will be Eastern European. That will certainly help DomShabs and Khokski occupy the top 2 spots on the podium.

I love D/W and think their programs and execution are superior to Khokski's, but do not realistically expect them to place any higher than third. Third still gets them in the GPF.

I wish I didn't have to agree with the two of you, but judging is the way it is. But I'm not giving up hope yet...D/W for the win! Or silver...I'll take either.

I am not giving up hope for Meryl and Charlie to win the silver medal at COR. I didn't think they would win Gold at Skate Canada, and they did. Also I see great improvement over last season, and their OD and FD absolutely:rock:. Go Meryl and Charlie!

There you go again:eek:hwell: I don't think the judges will boost them up on purpose. They might be from former SSRs, but that hardly means that they will want to unfairly place a Russian team higher. I never felt that K/N were a team that the judges helped very much anyway. I like both teams, but I have a feeling that they will be pretty close in the CD, but D/W will definitely beat K/N in the OD, unless the latter has seriously revamped theirs. Not sure about the FD though, both have pretty strong FDs. Lets just wait and see.:)

They would have 15 + 9 = 24 points.

Domshabs, Delschoes, and B&A will all have more points than that.

The Kerrs, with 2 third places, only have 22 points, and have less. C&L at best possible with a 2nd and a fourth, would also have 22 points. C&P with 2 fourths have 18. All of these couples would have less.

If KN are in second place,they would have 13 + 11 = 24 points

The first tie breaker is your highest placing. D&W's highest is first. They win over K&N in the first tie breaker, if they place 4th or higher.

Of the couples vying for first place at NHK -the question then becomes, is there any way for 3 couples to finish at NHK that would knock D&W out of the GPF.

Faiella Scali 13 points
Pechalat and Bourzat 11 points
Gorshkova & Butikov 9 points
Samuelson/Bates 9 points

The answer is, I don't think so.

I can only drop them down to being the 6th qualifier if S&B finish first . They would have 24 points, but S&B could score high enough to win on the second tie breaker, total points. F&S second with 26 points. But there's no way to get P&B ahead of D&W, except if they win, in which case one of the other 2 teams drops out of contention.
