Spanish discuss recent wrongful FBI arrest of Oregon lawyer

The above article is very scary.

It makes it clear how badly the Oregon prosecutor and the FBI wanted to arrest this guy. There were only 7 similarities in the fingerprints.

Meanwhile the Spanish police correctly matched the prints to an Algerian national and arrested the right guy.

If our police and FBI are going to arrest people on evidence this sketchy, just because they don't like their religion, and are not going to be objective about the evidence, how can we trust them if we are jurors?

How can we not fear to be arrested falsely ourselves?

Lots of scary situations like that coming out lately, not to mention the DNA tests exonerating so many on death row.

"Dateline" (I think) did a show about jury consultants and showed how a good juror consultant can practically decide the outcome of the case just by putting certain types of people on the jury. It used to be just defense attorneys who used jury consultants. Now a lot of prosecuters are too.

And if you don't think it's scary, just think of the guy who got arrested because witnesses to the crime picked him out of a photo line-up. By sheer luck, he was at a baseball game at the time of the crime--a murder, I think--and as the camera's panned the crowd, he was in the shot. Had that not happened, he'd be in jail now trying to raise a million dollar bail.

Scary is right. Thanks for the link, Doris.

Great article Doris, Thanks for the link and helping to remind everyone that the rights guaranteed to us in the Constitution are only as strong as the people who are supposed to help guard them. (And that includes every citizen!)
