You can't really accurately measure your own feet - bending over to do it changes the weight distribution. You need someone else to measure them, sitting and standing.

Yes, if your street shoe size is 7.5 to 8, your skates are way too big. I also wear a 7.5 or 8 reg, and my Jacksons are 6 EE (super super wide). Which brings us to another possible issue - you need your feet measured for width, as well. You may be feeling like the correct length boot doesn't fit if you're trying to fit in a regular width and you need a wide or wider width. Extremely common issue for adults (feet spread with age).
