If he's injured it's better to rest and heal it vs push through and risk having to push through or rehab in the Olympic season. Didnt they win Nationals last year - are the eligible for a bye as defending champions?

ofc better be fully healed/

Bummed just after Sara's injury my other fav dance pair suffered an injury as well :sad21:

Olympic champion Alina Zagitova will not take part in the test skates of the national team

Alina Zagitova today turned to the Federation with the following request:

“I made the decision not to participate in the test skates on September 12-13, because at the moment it is very interesting for me to try myself in a new role as the host of the Ice Age. I ask you to treat my request with understanding and agree on this decision. "

I would have waited until Friday evening to make my decision.

No point in waiting if you've already made up your mind. :) She's probably known for a while. I don't think a skater can just decide to participate in an event after a long break; you have to be prepared. It's obvious Alina has a lot going on outside of skating and she's made that her priority right now, as she should. Life continues on after the sport and she's taking on opportunities to further herself and career outside of competing.

She'll be missed but there will be no shortage of competition there without her. Even though it's a test skate there's still a decent amount of pressure on the skaters, especially in the ladies' event.

Even her fans should have known that she would probably not show up, or compete this seaskn, most of us have already said that after theysaid she doesnt know if she wqill compete in russian cup, the majority said thenandthere that she will not compete this season. But cant she or rusfed just come out now and say she will not compete this season? Because thats what it looks like, or does she want to wait (for what?) And then decide?and take thelast 2 russian cup events? Imean iceage as we know is probablynot the main reason since it waswritten in herethat the filming of ice age does not take that much time.

But i wush her the best no matter what she does. I hope she likes her studiesand i wish her good luck for her studys

It wouldn't be wise to come out and say you are not competing this season or in general if your advertisements require you to be an active athlete in order to keep you on the payroll. The Fed gets a % so it wouldn't be wise for them to admit she's not competing. If I was Zagitova, I'll fake it to the end.

I wonder what's causing this epidemic of back injuries in male ice dancers. ID requires less lifts now and overall the difficulty has gone down since the sochi quad (with a few exceptions as always), so that's out of the question — unless the requirements to have creative entries and/or exits out of the lifts are what's causing it? The Russians have such tall partners, too.

Lifts certainly, for a male partner in ice dance. In partnerships where there is a bigger difference in a size of the partners (characteristic for a pairs discipline) is easier for a males body to handle the pressure. I think Nikita always had the same problem during his career. Scot Moir too - its harder to lift Tessa than Meryl for sure  Chinese pair team Sui/Han are another example - they are the similar size - he is going to a back surgery. For ladies in ice dance, its mostly the positions in spins causing the back problems. Creativity is giving you double bullets for GOE points now, so creating some unusual positions in an element can 'help' the pain to happen
