Iโ€™m stunned by the results ๐Ÿ˜ณ
I thought Ahsun Yun should have won! I didnโ€™t even know who she was until tonight.

I have a feeling they will send Yelim and Young to Worlds

Wow what a competition - not in a good way though...

But still pleasantly surprised to see a new talent Ahsun Yun and Yelim delivered again, loved her Loop!

thanks chz for posting the scores!

The scoring is surprisingly stingy here.

program thoughts:
Young - I can see improvements from NHK but I've yet to still warm up to it
Haein - This program confuses me. Both musically and choreography-wise. I don't think this suits the lyrical quality of her skating.
Eunsoo - Needs more fine-tuning and. The question now is if she should keep it for the Olympics.
Yelim - I still think this is a great program for Yelim but it's now erring on being a generically pretty program. I think it has peaked its effectiveness on me in 4CC last year. Maybe that's a me thing but since this program is a confidence foundation for her then by all means, keep it and my opinion on it now is for the voids.
Seoyoung - Needs more engagement. Props for her on being clean though.

So I guess Young Haein and Yelim are (both fortunate and unfortunately) going to WC.

edit: typed too soon on who's going to WC....

I expected for people to be worn down and exhausted to be honest. Can't forget that the majority has this as their first outing plus it's a major one.

Plus I can't help feeling the almost echoing silence would have been extremely hard to deal with. They had it tough.

i wonder sometimes WHAT IF these top skaters actually get really good programmes with meaningful choreo/movements. I think they can show their true potential. I pity Young cause i dont ever remember she has/had gotten really good music that suit her style. Most are bits and pieces sewn together so they sound messy (at least to me). Korea is known for its Kpop stars and dances. Couldn't they utilize this into FS? Hmm:slink:

... Oh sweet heavenly powers above, I'm halfway glad I had to work and wasn't able to sit in front of my laptop hyperventilating. Protocols aren't up yet, probably coming up when the men are finished, I'll post full results and protocols for the day(and the direct blog page links for the men, for the ladies chz has done that work for me) when they're uploaded.

I share the same sentiments. I would love for Eunsoo to skate to SNSD's Hoot and Sunmi's Heroine as short programs. I guess, they're just trying to adhere to ISU's Jurassic love for classics and follow the status quo?

To add: I do think using Kpop songs require a bit more from skaters and choreographers in terms of constructing the program. That's a better logical answer tbh

That Bollywood FS, the program that put her name on the map (for me), was great. She was like 11 at the time, but showed more personality in that program than anything she's done in the past couple years. Also, that costume was fabulous!

Yup. This is an exception ๐ŸŒป. I watched this many times cause I was super excited for a new K skater after yuna.

Of course her jumps and skating skill have improved since then but her music-choices, not so much. Especially the recent years' ones. (pirate is another fave of mine) .

I don't think it was simply a music choice for Young You. She was quite expressive on her junior years and certainly has plenty natural stage presence there, unlike Yelim and Seoyoung Wi (sorry). But because of that, she also tends to get into the music too much, hence her performance esp the jumps became uncontrollable ( falling, underotating, hands down, etc). She was once even place 9th or 10th on junior Worlds. That is why, when she debuted on senior level, she was/is kinda holding back on the perfomance aspect and focus more on the jumps. Which worked for her in her debut year, but not anymore bcs of Covid and Haein. Covid prevent her to train and compete which prevent her to stabilized her 3A and adding more ultra C elements, while Haein is the new darling who have everything better than Young except 3A.

Thanks for this. Mind you it did have a larger picture of Junhwan and his FS costume and I was going "Jun, honey, you are so pretty but what are you wearing???"
