Dick Button (USA) is credited with inventing the Flying Camel Spin, which was originally known as the Button Camel, in the 1940s.

Who do you think has the best Flying Camel Spin?

Carolina Kostner has a very nice flying camel - fast, centered, good leg lines. Yeah, she's known for having some really wonky spins but it's usually on the combos and fancy positions. Her basic spins are actually quite good. I also like how light and effortless Oksana Baiul's flying camel was. Other than that most flying camels don't really stand out to me unless you start getting into the fancy variations. I think they're one of the most fun spins to do, though.

I noticed in the 1990s that Ukrainian skaters consistently seemed to have great "fly" to their flying camels.

Yukari Nakano was the queen of great speed and positions.

Are we including all the various combinations with catch-foots?

In that case my favorite is Yulia and how this season she changed her exit so the flow is smooth.

I agree that Yulia has a great exit on her camel spin now  and her Butterfly into it is great too!! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--lBzcp1Qk...A/Mg-doBuXln8/s1600/lipnitskaia+butterfly.jpg

But....I always liked this one by Yuna Kim.

I love Yulia's layback camel - I think it's one of the most beautiful positions in figure skating - she has impeccable extension on it

I love a simple camel position with a great flying entry.
Holding thee blade features (like the donut) are important but for obvious reasons, flexible skaters tend to have better positions than less flexible skaters when they do this.

My favourite type of flying entry is a butterfly entry. Patrick Chan did a beautiful butterfly flying entry into his spins.

Posting the following in this thread b/c it relates to camel spins although it may belong in "Stupid Questions" instead: :slink:

What's the difference between a flying camel and Dorothy Hamill's famous "Hamill Camel?"

Thanks!
