I've found some that caught my eye...

People just seem so friendly!

Torvill and Dean in Lillehammer

It's funny that people get wowed whenever Anissina carried Peizerat, since that move has been in the books for years now:

I'm glad that people no longer wear tights...

People have long forgotten the difficulty of a well-performed stag jump (Barbara Ann Scott)

Who can forget that costume?

Carol Heiss just looked so cute! Tara Lipinski always reminded me of her for some reason...

What level will Sonja's spiral be nowadays?

The first and last time Sonja finished last in the Olympics...

to 6th...

Before Tarasova...

I wish he was still skating...

They both looked so young!

This one interests me because of what Ernst Baier of Germany is doing during the 1936 Olympics medal ceremony...(Baier won the silver in the men's and the gold in the pairs)

John Curry.
I just watched a short clip of him from a web site. I love his style very much. Lambial remind me of him. So I think I can just watch Labial instead. lol

Ahem. Lambiel is a nice guy and a good skater - but he is miles away from Curry imho.

I agree. All of the guys who've come after Curry have been miles away.

Here's a nice photo of John with his gold medal...

I agree that Lambiel is miles away from Curry, but Paul Wylie came quite close, especially as a pro when he did not HAVE to land something like 7 or 8 triple jumps.

Johnny Weir could come pretty close to Curry in his lines and posture also.

Thanks for the links!! Curry was one of a kind and especially in his Pro career. I remember when on some TV fluff piece a man showed a clip of Janet Lynn to Boitano, and he never knew about her.......sad that today's skaters have no interest in the skaters that brought so much to their sport over the decades. I love looking at the old photos and movie clips I have in my collection and hearing stories from an old Capades skater about some of the greats and how they learned moves from the chorus line skaters!

That's so very creepy. (And to think people in the US made a big deal about the 68 black power salute.) I'm going to research more on him. I wonder if he ended up serving in Der Fuerher's army.

And considering that John Curry died so young of AIDs, it's a bit rude to say, Well, I'll just watch Lambiel instead. That's like saying Laurence Owen was good, but at least we DID get to watch a lot of Janet Lynn. :frown2:

I just had to agree. There is just no one like John Curry or, for that matter, Toller Cranston. It always struck me as unfortunate that they had to compete against each other.

I'm kind of glad they did. I think those two pushed the sport artistically. Imagine if the big legend of the day instead of Curry, Cranston, or Cousins, had been Jan Hoffmann? While Jan was good, he really was quite wooden.

The fans of that day certainly got outrageously rewarded. It's just that when I think of all the ho hum, what-was-his-name champions there have been, it seems a little wrong that 2 such magnificient skaters had to share the spotlight.

You know, it's been awhile since we've had some captioning fun around here. What do you make of THIS photo of Jenny Kirk and Evan Lysacek? It looks to me like he's trying to say, "I swear I've never seen this crazy woman with the red eyes before in my life!"

I think the reason OIC (not just US) made a big deal of it was precisely to avoid embarassing pictures like this in the future...
