Alexei Yagudin SP

I just rewatched a tape I have of last year's Skate America and despite it being a bit rough around the edges, Alexei's SP (Played A Live, I guess?) showed promise of being every bit as good as Winter. I hope he keeps it for the upcoming season. Has anyone heard anything?

Sometimes I think he can go too far with the miming but the "car" moves work well with the music and of course, both footwork sequences are breathtaking. Is anyone better at selling a program?

Interesting side note: Alexei has never won the Russian Nats.

Le Sanzo, welcome to the forum.

AFAIK, Alexei's gonna keep this program. At Skate America he didn't skate it like I know he could (and I'd seen him do just a few weeks before); I think the pain started to really bother him by then. Anyway, I don't mind the miming, and I do prefer this program to Winter. I'm still not sure how Alexei's going to skate this season, but I'm hoping for the best.

Re: Alexei Yagudin SP

I thought he skated Racing very well at Skate America. The only thing he did was double the lutz but other than that it was very good.

When he did this especially with Man In the Iron Mask (MITIM), I never thought of it so much as miming as I thought it was part of the story. This is just my interpretation that he was showing you the space (the cell) where the MITIM lived.

The only news I've heard is that he says the music to his new LP is beautiful.

I simply loved what I saw from SA. What struck me the most with was how much Kurt influence you could see thought out program, especially in the straightline footwork. The sort of dancey, very rhythmic, yet light feeling to it. Even the gesture looked familiar. IMO Alexei has gone a whole new direction with his footwork, and the ideas are incredibly interesting andd fresh. I can't wait to see him come back in the coming season.

Do you say with your comment that Kurt Browning choreographed that routine?? That's new to me, but it makes me even more curious to see it one day....

No, sorry, the program was choreographed by Morozov. I guess I should have made myself more clear. What I meant was that Alexei skated with Kurt on tours throughout the entire off season in 2002 and I thought he has picked up many style charateristics of Kurt's, from movement, gestures, to the feeling in his footwork.

I had the privilege of seeing Alexei's short program live at Skate America last year. Even at less than full strenght because of his injury, he totally dominated the competition. It was a love fest between him and the audience. He gallantly completed the warm-up for the long program, despite being in obvious pain. When he had to withdraw, the audience poured out its heart for him.

"Racing"

This guy is unbelievable - he could skate to the telephone book, he'd still wow the crowd just with his presence. Tracy Wilson said during the Sears Open 2002 something like "He's a master in putting a spell and creating an aura around him, so that the audience is always totally trapped in his performances." (Don't remember exactly the wording).

IMHO his Racing performance at Sears Open 2002 was the best by far ... he doesn't even need a quad to do an exciting routine, and despite his miserable situation then the whole program seemed so full of joy. The way he interacted with the Canadian crowd right from the beginning until the breathtaking final was just phenomenal!

Too much drooling, I know! Sorry! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=""> :D Of course I'm biased!

Re: "Racing"

He said in one of his recent (June) Russian interviews that he was keeping his SP. Now if only SOI would keep Studz I'd be happy. :p
