Schubert & Schumann

Of course, Beethoven is my favorite piano maestro and composer, but I also love pieces by Schubert and Schumann. Schubert's impromptus' for piano (in particular Impromptu No. 3 in G flat) are among my favorites as well as Schumanns Scenes of Childhood pieces. Anyone see the movie "My Brilliant Career" - Schumann is well represented there. I can listen to both composers music for hours.

I also want to give credit to Clara Schumann for being a champion for Robert Schumann's music after his death.

Did you know Clara Schumann was a wonderful pianist in her own right? I have heard some pieces composed by her as well on the CBC radio.

One of the most famous couples in the history of music. Robert Schumann married Clara Wieck against her father's wishes in 1840. The monument at the Alter Friedhof in Bonn depicts Clara at the grave of her husband. She survived him for fourty years after his early death in 1856, but now rests beside him.

Is the movie "my brilliant career" on dvd or video?

I too can listen to their music all day. Schubert is amazing, in just a short 31 years, he composed over 600 songs, wonderful chamber music trout quintet, death and the maiden, 9 symphonies and incidental music.

Robert and Clara love story is one for the ages. Robert sustained a finger injury and ended his own career as a pianist, but he was able to compose for Clara who was one of the finest pianist in history.

I like Schumann's creative output even in the midst of depression, delusions. In addition to the piano literature, he composed 4 symphonies, a violin concerto, and a <strong>concert piece for 4 horns.</strong> I don't think any composer had done that.

it is well known that Brahms was in love with Clara.

I really believe that without Clara's undying advocacy some of Robert's music might had been lost.

I know it is available on video, I am not sure about DVD. I have seen it a couple of times. One of my favourite Autstralian movies. Excellent work by Judy Davis. I know you would love it!

Thanks for the info on Schubert and Schumann. It's wonderful Clara was able to carry on her husbands' work.
