Juliana Cannorozzo is on a roll, with a first place in the Hungarian event already under her belt. Does anyone know anything about this new-to-me skater? She does not have a bio on the USFS site.

Cannarozzo played "Zoe Bloch" in the 2005 Disney movie "Ice Princess" -- link to Part 1 (of 3) of USFS' article series on the U.S. skaters in the movie:

Thnaks, Slivia. :) By spelling her name wrong on the USFS search feature, I turned up only one mention where her name was misspelled in the same way, LOL.

Great article about Zoe and the Jumping Shrimp.

I was not really impressed with Juliana last year, but it's nice to see improvements in skaters. I'll have to check her out in Spokane.

A Russian gal in 2nd place!!! Nice going. It's been a while that we've seen ladies singles in russia moving up.

Note: Megan is v. close to the Russian gal and I think the LP will be quite a toss up.

Svetlana ISSAKOVA (the skater in 2nd place) is ESTONIAN, not Russian.

The Russians are Jana SMEKHNOVA (5th place) and Margarita TERTICHNAIA (9th place).

I see that Issakova had strong technical marks, but was only ninth in program component scores. The free skate should be interesting.

Does anyone know what type of jumps Juliana does ?
Cannarozzo has added 3lutz and 3flip to both her short and long programs this season. She also has 3toe and 3loop in her FS but no 3salchow. She will be competing as a senior in the US.

Final results show a fall fest and I don't mean the season.

Juliana kept in lst and by quite a bit over the Italian and Russian gals. Megan totally off.

I don't think so. Except for the astonishing performance of Caroline Zhang in Mexico City, the results of all of the events so far have been pretty much in the same range.

Courcheval: 1st place, 135 points; second place 124; third place, 112.

Budapest: 116, 108, 107

Mexico City: 162 (!), 108, 107

Mirecures Ciuc: 120, 116, 115

Norway: 123, 112, 111.

I agree with your comment for this year, but when compared to the 2005-2006 year series the results for this year (other than Zhang) look much lower. Has ther been any fundamental chnage in scoring? A change in the skill level of the skaters? Other reasons?

Last year seems to have been the anomaly. For some reason there were a clutch of junior skaters at the top who were already poised for seniors. Yu-na Kim would have been at the Olympics and Worlds as a senior if she had been born two months earlier, and Elene Gedevanishvili competed in the junior GP but moved up to seniors and placed 10th at the Olympics. Aki Sawada also was good enough to make her national team as a senior, except for the extraordinary depth of the Japanese ladies field.

Altogether 7 skaters scored higher than 140 points in the series (Kim, Sawada, Gedevanishvili, Mai Asada, Christine Zukowski, Veronika Kropotina and Binshu Xu).

The previous year was more typical, I think. There were two future stars in Mao Asada (172 points in the junior GP final) and Kimmie Meissner, but only two others (Kim and Duhamel) beat the 140 mark.

As far as I can see there were no substantive changes in the judging criteria. Maybe there are cycles in juniors as skaters try to position themselves for a run at the Olympics every four years. (?) Or, conversely, maybe in an Olympic year the veteran seniors want to stick around for the big show, keeping the talented younsters down in juniors even when they are good enough to move up. (?)

Where are these young skaters now?
