I find it quote shocking that Martinova earned the 2nd highest TES score. I was pretty sure that her jumps would end up being pretty much the worst of the whole group. Remember that she wasn't even close to breaking the top 15 at the last Worlds.

Martinova, for me, has a lot of potential. What the Russian Fed does for her is something else.

Joe

And wasn't worlds her first international senior competition ever? I guess that has something to do with her results there as well, making your debut at such an impressive competition, against (most of) the best skaters in the world.

I wish I liked Sebestyen's skating more. She must be very proud of herself right now. But let's hear it for the veterans who are always being written off!

What a shame about Alissa. Hopefully she'll come back mad and strong in the LP. I'm puzzled by Korpi's poor showing. What did she do wrong?

There's Sokolova right in the mix. You can just never tell with her. Still anybody's to win.

According to Anna's reports: 2F2T, 2L

I'm shocked any competitors do this anymore (downgrade their jumps). A rudimentary look at the results from the COP scoring system clearly shows skaters do better if they do triples and fall or two-foot them than if they pop and downgrade jumps. I wonder if Czisy felt the pressure here because she knew this was a field she had a very good opportunity to beat. She seems to do best at competitions where little or nothing is expected of her (SA and SC last year, SC this year where Rochette, Suguri and Kim overshadowed).

What would really be ironic is if Julia's lead holds up and she goes into the GP final as the only skater with two firsts. Meanwhile, Mao Asada could conceivably finish third (or even second) at NHK and not make the finals at all!

Sebestyen may have the lead but she only has 54 points. That won't compete with the big ones (Kim, Asada, Ando) who all score well over 60. Meissner too, but she seems to be a weaker SP skater (scoring around 58). Doesn't bode too well for the Final. This really IS a second-rate field if 54 puts you in the lead!! Has to be the weakest of all the GP events.

Doesn't surprise me too much. I thought Alyssa would be a little higher but it's not over yet. It's only 33% over, we still have the other 67% to go.

Ironic, and sad as well. I bet if that happens changes will be made in the format for next year. At least I hope so. It's just not fair to the better skaters who get tough events.

I wish they used the top 6 scores instead.

There's some argument for this, but the problem is that it's not the same judges for each event (or the same caller) and scores can vary quite wildly from event to event for the same approximate level skate. Just like scores seem to automatically increase for the Olympics and Worlds, even when skaters may not perform as well as they did earlier in the season.

However, I do think it can make the GPF a bit of a less serious competition when some of the obviously strong competitors don't make the cut because they were in tougher fields. I'm just not sure there is a perfect way to make sure the best skaters make the final.

What a pity that Sebestyan will be in the finals.

It's not totally sure yet, although she has a very good chance for that now. However, the point difference between her, Sokolova, Meier and some others is not that big. Anything can happen tomorrow.

But what happened to Sarah? I mean she didn´t fall and if I understood right, her jumps were ok and her component marks seem to be a little bit higher than at SA. Still, she scored almost seven points less than at SA. Did she do some other mistakes then?

Luckily she still has a possibility to win. I so would love to see her at the GPF. Go for it Sarah!

And of course:  for Kriss. I hope he is still in top five after the FP.

And  for Alissa and Kiira. Hopefully they skate better tomorrow.
