Mine has a tendency to change every year - although Silent Night is always in the top (most versions except Stevie Nicks) but this year it is "Colorado Christmas" again from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. they mention my home in it, so it always comes back as a favorite.

What is yours?????

It really hit home when I was living in Santa Barbara, CA

Looking out the window of this hollywood hotel,
You'd never know that it was christmas eve.
The billboards and the neon took the place of silver bells,
And the temperature is 84 degrees.
I can hear the traffic on the crowded strip below
As the palm trees poke their heads above the scene
Theres not a single reindeer and it hardly ever snows,
And santa drives a rolls royce limosine.

But all along the rockies you can feel it in the air
From Telluride to Boulder down below
The closest thing to heaven on this planet anywhere
Is a quiet christmas morning in the colorado snow

I remember christmases when I was just a boy
In the morning I would run to see the tree.
And the carolers on the hillside sang their songs of christmas joy
Well, I always thought they sang them just for me.
Now the sun is setting in the california sky
And I cant find the spirit anywhere
So I think its time for me to tell los angeles goodbye
Im going back home to look for christmas there

But all along the rockies you can feel it in the air
From telluride to boulder down below
The closest thing to heaven on this planet anywhere
Is a quiet christmas morning in the colorado snow

My favorite rollicking anti-war Christmas song.....

Stop the Cavalry

Hey, Mr. Churchill comes over here
to say we're doing splendidly
But it's very cold out here in the snow,
marching to win from the enemy
Oh I say it's tough,I have had enough
Can you stop the cavalry?
I have had to fight, almost every night
down throughout these centuries
That is when I say, oh yes yet again
Can you stop the cavalry?
Mary Bradley waits at home
in the nuclear fall-out zone
Wish I could be dancing now
in the arms of the girl I love
(Chorus):
Dub a dub a dum dum
Dub a dub a dum
Dub a dum dum dub a dub
Dub a dub a dum
Dub a dub a dum dum
Dub a dub a dum
Dub a dum dum dub a dub
Dub a dub a dum
Wish I was at home for Christmas
Bang! That's another bomb on another town
While Luzar and Jim have tea
If I get home, live to tell the tale
I'll run for all presidencies
If I get elected I'll stop - I will stop the cavalry
(Refrain)
Wish I could be dancing now
in the arms of the girl I love
Mary Bradley waits at home
She has been waiting 2 years long
Wish I was at home for Christmas

Mary Did You Know by Mark Lowry (though Clay Aiken's Version is just as stunning)
I also love Todd Agnew's new Christmas song "Did You Know" which is similar to Mary Did You Know but is talking to Christ... in fact all of his new Christmas songs are pretty incredible
and then O Holy Night :) Josh Groban rocks that one out!

"Children, Go Where I Send Thee" - the Cissy Houston version is the one I know. It always makes me get up and dance around in delight like an idiot. "Whatcha gonna call that pretty little baby?"

And Joy to the World - pretty much any version

Yes! It's one of my all time favorites, too, but only Judy's recording can still choke me up.
Other secular favorites are "White Christmas" and "Santa Baby". My favorite religious carol is "Oh, Holy Night", specifically as sung by Jon Anderson (of Yes) and Sandra Crouch (the gospel singer).
Happy holidays everyone!

O Holy Night. My favourite version is by LeAnn Rimes. I also like Andy Williams doing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year", and Sarah McLachlan's new version of "The First Noel". Silent Night, Mary's Boy Child ans Silver Bells are also good.

For more modern songs, I've always loved John Lennon's "Happy Xmas", and the Band-Aid hit "Do they know it's Christmas".

There is nothing that gets me more than the scene in "Meet Me in St. Louis" when Judy Garland sings "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".

I also think "I Wonder As I Wander" is a beautiful song.

Props to the person who brought up The Kinks' "Father Christmas"!

I've never celebrated Christmas religiously, but I do Yule. For me it's a tie between Deck the Halls and God Rest Ye Merry Paganfolkhttp://willow.creative-interweb.com/library/songbook/carols/test.page?carol=God+Rest+Ye+Merry,+Paganfolk&match_exactly=true:

God rest ye merry, paganfolk,
Let nothing you dismay.
Remember that the Sun returns
Upon this Solstice day.
The growing dark is ending now
And Spring is on its way.

Oh, tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy!
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.

The Goddess rest ye merry, too,
And keep you safe from harm.
Remember that we live within
The circle of Her arms,
And may Her love give years to come
A very special charm.

Oh, tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy!
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.

I also love these pop songs

River

River is so beautiful. I have British Broadway star Michael Ball singing it. I also heard Sara McClaclan (however that's spelled). sing it on today's Regis & Kelly show.
