All just IMO, of course, feel free to add your own:
MELISSA BULANHAGUI -- What a charming girl!! She sure DID look like she was having the time of her life despite a bit of a disaster, performance-wise. I'm sure a lot of us wish we could learn how to do that!! (and not necessarily just in a skating context, but in a "real world" context)
MICHELLE BOULOS -- Really good edge quality. NOTABLY good edge quality, actually, given how little truly good edging one sees these days (tho it's gotten better overall since the late 80s/early 90s, which was truly an all-time low in this department. Still, it isn't what it USED to be....). Who's her spiky-haired coach?
DANIELLE KAHLE -- Nice performance, but the choreography -- and music -- could have used a little more variety and spark; the tempo and pace of both were just a little relentless. Good job, tho.
JULIANA CANARAZZO -- What a STUNNING young lady!! Rather has a Silvia Fontana thing going on. (I mean, looks-wise; no wrapped leg here, fortunately). Beyond that, I really enjoyed this program, too -- wonderful flow and good expressions; very enjoyable. Out of all the "new faces" seen this evening, Juliana is definitely the one I am most looking forward to seeing more of.
ALISSA CZISNY -- Well, she was just spellbinding. Sometimes the greater a performance is, the less I can really find to say about it.
RACHAEL FLATT -Sorry. I don't get it. I just didn't see anything that set her apart from any other really talented young lady her age or even slightly older. And I just didn't see this "musicality" that people seem to be talking about at all. Regarding that clip of her at 3 skating to "Broadway Baby" -- Man. That was a LOT of DRESS for such a little girl!!
KATY TAYLOR -- I'll bet part of her might be wishing she had just tanked in the short and been done with it; she probably thought she was turning her year around with that short program, only to go out today and....   I will give her this, tho -- despite the errors, this was the first time I have EVER seen her actually give some indication that she had MUSIC on; this was actually a good program for her, artistically. To me, in the past, she just kind of meandered around out there aimlessly, but there was a definite "point of view" (as Uncle Dick says) going on in in this program and good for her!
KIMMIE MEISSNER -- Meh. I did like the actual program, and I thought the footwork was terrific, but WAY too much telegraphing. Has she always done this and I just never noticed, or has she started working with Elena Liashenko??
EMILY HUGHES -- She's improved a lot artistically in the last year, too. I'd like to see her hold on to this program for another season, because I think she could really do some great stuff with it; even at this point IMO she's only about halfway there. Good show, tho.
[Sidebar: Based on the Torino Bus Incident, can you imagine what would happen if Johnny Weir had left HIS dress back at the hotel???? ]
(Sorry, I couldn't resist...... )
BEBE LIANG -- Getting past the jump and speed problems, this is a program that IMO should have been much more interesting than it was and it had less to do with Bebe than it did with the actual choreography. I know Sarah Kawahara's work gets praised to the skies and she's supposed to be so great, yada yada yada, but I have yet to see one thing she's ever choreographed (except for a short program she did for Bebe a couple years ago) that ever impressed me all that much.
Lastly, that "Little Girls Have Big Dreams, Too" has GOT to go. Bebe is no longer a little girl (At least not as far as her age is concerned.) That whole thing is condescending, it is sexist, and usually hideously written and just must STOP.
