A Very Macabre Phone Call, Indeed

Talk about "reaching out to someone!." Sprint "takes the cake!"

You Won't Believe This Phone Bill!

By Cathryn Conroy, Netscape News Editor
There's no avoiding taxes and death--and apparently phone bills. David Towles, who passed on to his great reward in December 1997 at the age of 60, received a Sprint phone bill last week. For 12 cents. For a call he (supposedly) made on February 16, five years after he died. Sprint did a good job of tracking him down to try to get their 12 cents. The address was right: Hillside Cemetery, Evergreen Section, Auburn, Mass. 01501.

Cemetery Superintendent Wayne Bloomquist told The Associated Press, "Our clients here don't usually get mail. I wondered if maybe we should start putting mailboxes on the monuments." Now there's another problem. Because Towles hasn't paid the bill yet, he's been hit with late charges. He now owes $3.95, reports AP. The bill has been turned over to the Auburn town clerk, who intends to hold onto it for a while.

Could it be that Sprint knows something we don't? Instead of holding a seance to contact your loved ones in the great beyond, call Sprint.

Great story, Lad, and so true. They will track you down to your grave for a dime. I expect that soon, if you don't pay your medical bills and die that they will exhume you, bring you back to life, and put you to work until you pay off your bill.

Hey, with cloning and regeneration techniques, it ain't so farfetched!

Great story Lad. There was a story in yesterday's New York paper that reminds me of it. A woman named Svetlana is missing, presumed dead, and police are investigating whether the death had anything to do with medical fraudulent billing, perpetrated by her husband. The police on reviewing his files found several claims that "the insurance company baulked at paying"

Claim one: A foot operation for a patient who had been listed PRIOR to the operation as a double amputee

Claim two: An operation for a patient who had already had a death certificate issued.

Possibly the patient in claim 2 is the one who made the phone call?

Still laughing at your story :rollin:
