Hockey Night in Canada Theme - May Never Be Heard Again

It's been called Canada's Second National Anthem and just about every Canadian born and raised here knows the tune and can hum a few bars. The song was written by a woman, but has introduced Hockey Night in Canada on the CBC for about 40 years. The song is the Hockey Night in Canada theme and it may disappear from the airwaves forever if the CBC does not renew the contract. The announcement just came yesterday and has Canadians up in arms:

Good News! CTV - another Canadian station purchased the tune and will feature it at the 2010 Olympics as well as on their hockey station - TSN. So the tune will still be with us, just on a different network. Meanwhile the CBC is searching for a new tune. Perhaps the famous Hockey Song by Stompin' Tom Connors would be a good replacement!
