Hey,
in the last season lots of people talk about a possible comeback of Evgeni Plushenko and Xue Shen/Hongbo Zhao. Does anyone know, how this plans are today?? Maybe a comeback for Vancouver 2010?..

On Plushenko.
He has returned to train one month ago, he began in Estonia, continued in the Stage de Pinzolo (Italy) with Mishin. Now he is again in Estonia and ) will go to Germany with Mishin.
According to him, he wants to turn this season, has new programs with Marton's music. Though he will not compete up to the Russian nats (he is not assigned to any competition of the Prix). Certainly, everything will depend on his health.
More information in EPD. ;);)

The only thing I've read about Shen and Zhao is that they're still considering it. The last thing I saw was an interview done during Stars on Ice in which Hongbo said they would resume training in 2009 if they decided to come back. Of course it all depends on whether they're healthy he said.

I'd rather see them return than Plushenko. Although I can't truly compare across disciplines, I still prefer them anyday. And if they are healthy enough, I'll be cheering for them in Vancouver. I miss them so much!

I hope S/Z truly consider returning if they are healthy enough. As of last season, I think only the German couple are competitive against S/Z. IMO, the other Chinese couples have stalled with regards to performance quality and no other truly competitive pairs come to mind at this time. Obviously, this could change at any time between now and the next Winter Olympics.

I agree with you Heyang. I really thought that the Zhangs would step up but they haven't. I think that Pang and Tong have made some strides in their artistry but they didn't have the results last season that I had expected them to have.

I think that if Shen/Zhao are healthy and do decide to come back that the battle for gold would be between them and S./S. Of course anything could happen between now and then!

I don't think S/Z are coming back. They seem to be happy about the current lifestyle - touring with SOI, coaching & managing a skating club... They have signed up next year's SOI... They also indicated in the interviews the hesitation of coming back in 2010 as gold is the only color they desire, but to get gold medals at Olys is easy said than done at their age...

chfns, thanks for the pictures!! I'm also glad to know that they will be back on SOI this year.

As much I would love to see them compete in Vancouver, I have my doubts that they will be there. They seem happy with what they're doing now and in their life as a married couple. After all these years, they certainly deserve it. :)
