How can Meryl and Charlie qualify for the Grand Prix final? Where will they have to place in their respective events? Is this question answerable at this stage of the season or not? I find it very confusing.

I think their best bet would be to win silver at Skate Canada and bronze at Cup of Russia, score as many points at both events as possible, and cross their fingers. They're certainly not beating Virtue and Moir at their home event, or either Russian team at theirs. The hard part would probably be beating Pechelat and Bourzat in Canada; either team could come out on top there.
Unless, of course, Shabalin's knee causes trouble again and takes him and Domnina out of Cup of Russia, which becomes a completely different ball game.
