On reviewing the entry list here, it seems to me that Kristine Musademba and Becky Bereswill should finish first and second again, as they did at Courchevel. After that my crystal ball is very dim. One competitor I am interested in is Ksenia Makarova, the daughter of Oleg Makarov and Larisa Selezneva who used to skate pairs for Russia and now coach in the US. Ksenia has always competed in the US system. I am wondering how she came to skate for Russia, since I do not see where she competed at Russian Nationals. Does anyone know the story?

Sonia LAFUENTE ESP could well win the bronze medal here, as she did at Sheffield last year. And a very nice win for the hometown crowd that would be

I'd love to hear anything else about these competitors..

She is. She competed at Russian Junior Nationals last year, finishing fourth with a score of 134,67.

It seems Ksenia is doing what lots of other skaters have done when they can't quite break through in the US---they change to a federation where the competition isn't quite so tough.

I hope she does well for Russia and is happy with her choice.

Which brings me to wondering what the Japanese federation is doing with/to Daisuke Murakami. He was scheduled to compete in Mexico City for Japan, but when he got there, he couldn't skate because the JSF hadn't filed the proper paperwork.

Now it seems that all the JGP slots for Japanese men are filled, so he won't get to compete in the JGP this year. Too bad, as he is a terrific skater and probably would have earned a spot in the JGPF.

Yes, I thought the Japanese federation was dreadful to Murakami. And incompetent, particularly letting him arrive in Mexico with the papers unfiled.

It begs the question if the Japanese Federation are paying Morozov or not. His performance at MidAtlantics wasn't exactly on par with Takahashi and Oda. However, Murakami does have potential for future succeses.

Back on Topic: I see no obvious reason for Musademba and Bereswill not to repeat their successes in Madrid. It would be nice if Sonia La Fuente can get a bronze.

But Murakami will be competing as a JUNIOR, not a Senior, so it is not reasonable to expect him to perform at the same level as Oda and Takahashi. Murakami is only 17, while Takahashi and Oda are 22 and 21.

Morozov helped make Rippon into a Junior World Champion. Murakami is developing nicely, as his Midlantics performance showed. What more does the JSF want? If they object to Murakami training with Morozov, publicly embarrassing both skater and coach is not the way to handle it.

Maybe Murakami should reconsider his decision to skate for Japan.

Murakami is listed as an alternate for Belarus, South Africa and Sheffield, so maybe there is a chance he will still compete?

I certainly hope so, especially considering his MidAtlantics performance & scores.

But whom should he replace? The nominated guys Hanyu, Yoshida and Sasaki finished all better than Murakami at the Japan Jr. Championships 2007/2008.

Exactly. And of those 3, Sasaki and Hanyu have already skated well enough to earn a second event, and Yoshida skates next week in BLR, where getting a visa takes time.

You have wrong updates about Caroline Petersson from Sweden. That results is from a different one, who now is a senior skater.

Caroline Petersson who is from Sweden is a first year junior skater, she was number 3 in novice 13 years old in Sweden last year. She is very talented, last year she did 2a, 3s and 3t very easily. She sometimes do silly novice mistakes on her easier jumps, and need to improve her basics. Her spins are fast. It will be interesting to se her in this field. I have only seen her against novice competors before.

Good for Ksenia! I loved her parents' skating the best of the Russian pairs of that era (yes, even over Gordeeva & Grinkov, at least as Olympic eligible skaters). S&M were so creative. I hope Ksenia skates amazingly well in Madrid.

I missed Makarova at Midatlantics. I did see Cesario and she was better than aveerage. I would like to see her again somewhere.

Apparently Caroline Petersson from Sweden has an injury in her back and are not allowed to be on the ice at the moment.
