Surprisingly poor results for Melissa. She must have had at least 2 jump problems.

Melissa has a lot of work to due to extend her streak to 4 good events in a row.

Also surprising that there are two scores in the 50's despite of Melissa and Brittney's struggles. The Japanese and Russian teams are making it known that they don't want 7 USA ladies in the final. ;)

The international Jr. ladies' field has been quite weak for 2008 & 2009 season(Caroline, Mirai, Rachael excluded as I counted them towards 2007 season).

I'm really impresed at how the JGP debutantes from Japan are doing in these late events. It's sad that neither Muramoto or Murakami are likely to get a second event.

They have the jumps and they seem to have good spins.

It's sad that Laney Diggs, Ellie Kawamura, and Agnes Zawadzki aren't getting first events. ;)

I suspect that I'll be more sad for the 3rd through 5th place finishers in Cape Town than I am for Kana Muramoto. Definitely sad for Murakami. Less than one point away from a win and a second event. :(

Imai is age 15, so it's not like Fujisawa who is the youngest and highest scorer.

I love Agnes Zawadzki, but she is barely 14 and just up from Novice (she was 4th at Nationals as a first year Novice, having finished 2nd as an Intermediate in 2007). There was no way she would be able to get a JGP despite some amazing performances this summer.

If she does well at Nationals as a Junior, expect to see Agnes in the JGP next year. She has a sparkling personality on the ice.

In the end, I wasn't that surprised that Bulanhagui didn't skate well in her second event. In the 2005-2006 JGP, she won a silver medal in her first event, but finished 4th in her 2nd. Last year, she was 5th in her only assignment.

It certainly shows that Americans should be more carefully chosen for Belarus.

Doris - I just don't buy scores from one comp to another. There is, of course, the slippery sport theory, but imo, it is different judges minds from one comp to another.

Realisticly, Russia and Japan ladies did extremely well, and congrats.

Well, I don't really see what the problem with the selection. On paper, Bulanhagui and Rizzo should've done really well. Melissa didn't score as high as the other gold medalists, but she won her first event and earned the right to another one. A 4th place finish here would've probably sufficed. Rizzo also finished top 4 in her event, and again, earned a second one.

I think looking at the protocols is important. For example, in this competition, Imai has all the triples, high level spins and an 2A+3T combo, which in a junior competition, will do very well if skated moderately clean.

Incredible, Johanna Allik from Estonia was 4th in the FS ahead of Rizo and Bulanhagui without a triple jump but with three (!) 2A.

A tactical masterpiece! A lesson for the young ladies how to be successful in a junior event!

I am surprised that the regulations for the 2A was not yet changed.

Allik was also very clean - only negative GOE was on her 3 jump combo - and got level 3 or above for all her none jump elements, including the only level 3 step sequence of the free skate.
