oh my goodness.
What is going on?
Was Yuna that much better than the rest??

Yes. She had more attack and power through her jumps, and quite a few other skaters were a bit flat. Plus her program is by far the best choreographically.

Not a very good start for Kimmie. The judges don't seem to like Rachael much. Kim can't be overtaken. It looks like the big story in the U.S. will be whether Mirai can crack the podium.

Other than the 2A she was definitely the best, but 69.50 is wayyyyy too high for this early in the season.

Can't wait to see this SP later in the season though!

Oh, my, that's a bit of an over-score, isn't it? I think that 3F should be "!" can't believe that she's 12 points higher than Miki, that's crazy. Miki must have had a downgrade somewhere (I'm guessing 3Z-3R<), plus she did fall in the slss, which lost steam and choreography afterwards. Even so, 12 points! Yu-na must have maxed out on all the levels and GOE's aside from the 2A. 2A is the lowest-scoring jump, though, but still, almost 70 for that program!

Yu-Na was so overscored. Not only did she nearly fall, but her flip is clearly a lip. She shouldn't be that far ahead of Ando.

Doesn't Yuna have "textbook" jumps or something?
Well, I wouldn't know, but if you are correct, then apparently judges don't care, or she could've scored well over 70 with flip, I guess.

That's why I hate this point system.

Kim just mind as well have fallen on the D.axle. And guess what! Her score would have been still around mid 60's!

Congra~~~ to Yuna. Miki and Yukari were underscored. These two were much better than Mirai and Rachel.

Congrats to the top 3. Y-Na's score is impressive.
I hope Miki can gather herself together tomorrow.

Yuna is by far the best.

Having said that, I agree with feraina and lmarie086 that 70 is a tad bit high for the performance and the take-off edge for the flip was questionable to me. But hey, I am no expert on that subject matter.

Miki definitely came unscrewed after the fall. Otherwise, it was a good performance.

As for American ladies, I enjoyed Mirai best. Mirai has speed and attack that was non-existent in other American ladies. And she is capable of weaving choreography into technical elements. So yes, I understand why judges put Mirai ahead of Rachael.

Agreed. I don't understand. Obviously she was the best and she is lovely but she was not as good as the scores show. At most, she should have had AT MOST 64-66.

Miki, I could see, but Yukari had a botched jump. Really, this scoring system kind of sucks. Yu-Na can do no wrong and will win unless she falls 3 times in the long. The rest of the podium will come down almost entirely to the long program since everyone's practically tied.

Hm

My thoughts:

Meissner: Good opening showing! Verry good, and known to be a LP skater, so hopefully she can make up ground on Ando/Nakano.

Kim: Wooah. woah. Really? REALLY? uhm. okay. Well, she is a SP skater afterall...im sure her LP will be killer though...

Nagasu/Flatt: Great opening skates to Senior GP life! If Flatt really was underscored, thats a shame...

Ando: Great! Back to shape!

Now, regrding the scoring...hm. Up til now through SA I was all ready to say that scores were starting to line up with what I thought after thinking that they were starting to fall back to old ways last year. Its a shame. And if international judges overscore Kim....I am not excited to see Asada's scores...

Are the judges on crack?

FLatt was robbed. The only lady to skate a clean short. She should have been in third place. Yuna was scored way too high. SHe was good, but not that good.

I haven't seen it so can't say anything yet but it's so boring if a skater is so much ahead already after SP.

I was very disappointed with Rachel's skate but not with her score. I think Ashley Wagner is the best U.S. female skater alongside Mirai at present. Rachel skated very tentatively and very juniorish. Everyone here seems to be complaining Rachel should be ahead of Mirai but I disagree. Mirai wasn't that great either but Rachel wasn't better than Mirai either. In fact, Rachel looked more juniorish than Mirai IMHO.

I love Meissner with all my heart, but seriously, what did she do to be only 0.02 behind Nagasu??? I also think IMHO... Rachel was robbed

Flatt's triple/triple as apparently underrotated. As for Yu-na, someone over at FSU just chimed in to say that Yu-na was dominating. Apparently her speed and ice coverage was light years ahead of anyone else's. That she reached every inch and corner of the rink and it was amazing to see.
