LP interim scores:

Chase/Speroff and Sheikh/VanCleave are recovering, although each team had one fall. I haven't watched it. I hope sometime IN will fix the archival footage so I can watch without getting a headache from the pixellation. To level set though, Castelli & Shnapir got 81.56 in the JGPF with one fall, so I don't expect them to rise far up the standings with these scores.

1 Brittany Chase, Broadmoor SC
Andrew Speroff, Broadmoor SC 73.96 35.23 39.73 5.07 4.68 4.86 5.04 5.18 1.00 #5

Aaron VanCleave, Detroit SC 71.70 34.81 37.89 4.79 4.46 4.68 4.86 4.89 1.00 #4
3 Megan Gueli, Detroit SC
Grant Marron, Coyotes SC of Arizona 68.37 35.90 33.47 4.21 4.14 4.04 4.21 4.32 1.00 #6

Nathan Bartholomay, University of Delaware FSC 65.21 33.15 32.06 4.29 3.79 3.86 4.14 3.96 0.00 #3

I thought Bautista/Hopson were underscored. Haven't understood the judging in this comp at all.

Tanovich and Chau just won it. There is no way the won't beat C/K's score. That was fantastic -- throw 3Lo and 3S, SBS 2Lz and 2F seq. 2Lo, nice lifts, great artistry, great unison on everything. The only the C/K had on them was the 3twist. Standing ovation.

I wish I could have done a PBP, but my IN feed was really bad until the last group.

Into first. They are absolutely overjoyed. Too bad they're still not JGP eligible this year.

Tanovich and Chau must get downgraded for something, they have even lower TES than C/K??!!

but they won!! WOW, that team is something special!!

I just hope she can stop growing, but she's only 12 lol.. and maybe he can grow more!

can't believe there's still 4 years to go until she's 16...

Loved, loved, loved Tanovich & Chau.
However, I'm trying not to get excited about them, because she's only 12 and almost as tall as him. :(

Tanovich touched down on the throws, and C/K had a textbook 3-twist. I don't know enough about pairs to call levels for lifts, but that could've been the difference too.

Poor girl turns 13 this August, and just misses eligibility by a few weeks. And because that, they have to move up to senior next year. You can't enter regionals or sectionals in a level you've won nationals in, except senior. Some people (Matthews and Zavozin) get around this by getting byes to nationals, but T/C can't get one since they aren't JGP eligible. Unless the rules have changed, they have to move up.

I think that rule has changed.

I'm more worried about their size difference than their ability to place well at Senior Nats. With this content and the state of pairs in the US, it's doable.

If the feed was good on the last group, it should be good in the archive. I'll definitely watch it there then.

I take it that Chau/Tanovich aren't eligible for Jr Worlds because of her age?

oh god... her age and their size is a problem... Depending on the guy though, some guy can grow quite a lot after 18... depends...

I would HATE to see this pair to split up because of their size difference later.

Really something special in this pair!

Did anybody see Bautista and Hopson skate? Did she land the throw 3 loop?

This was my PBP for Bautista/Hopson on FSU:

Lots of speed. 2Twist good. Th3Loop fall, but good for them going for it. Lift ok, a bit shaky. 2Lz+2Lo? very good unison on it. Death spiral, almost loses his pivot but saves it. Pair spin ok. Nice entry into Th2F. 2F? sorry my feed froze, think she had a hand down. Footwork sequence, a bit slow. Spins, good unison for part of it but then off and far apart.

They fought through that, but they did a good job. I liked it. They have potential. I like how they have a year or two in the JGP to develop. She looks disappointed. But I think that should be 1st.

Is he really only 5'4"? He better have some major growth spurt, or it will be next to impossible for him to ever skate with an age-eligible senior lady. A shame. He needs a big growth spurt pronto!

And geez, she's only 12? Oh man.

Still, regardless of what the future holds for them, a great win for them!

Tanovich and Chau were very special and I look forward for them in the future.

Much of the contest was a mixed bag. The only thing I got out of it was that the male partners should look for 12 girls to skate with.
