I must say I feel quite sorry for the judges: 50 men's SPs and 53 in the ladies'! That should be completely exhausting.

27 pairs seems like a good-sized field.

I'm so proud to see my Fumie written over there. Just amazing.
Twelve years (!) after her first Worlds (podium then: Lipinski, Kwan, Gusmeroli). Well done to Fumie for a great career in competitive skating, and for qualifying this season - and good luck to her in LA!

Why isn't Belgium using it's second spot in men?

I am now looking forward to a withdrawing-festival, that will probably come. But I am glad that at least everyone stays positive for the time being. Both Delobel / Schoenfelder and Domnina / Shabalin are listed, as is Sarah Meier who sounded very doubtful about Worlds in an interview.

Is there a link to the Sarah Meier interview?
Belgium should send Blommaert if he's not ill/injured. He could use the experience.

Are'nt they splitting the ladies' and men's into two groups with different judges?

How are they splitting up the two groups for SP?

and I think it's 24 ladies and men get into the final, how many for pairs and ice dancing?

I think for pairs, 20 make it through to the LP. In dance, I'd guess 30 for the OD and 24 for the FD.

As for splitting the men and the ladies into two groups, there is of course a morning session (that's like the black hole session, sucking in skaters who never come out for the LP) and an afternoon session, but AFAIK it's the same judging panel for both, just with a break in the middle. I could be wrong. I hope for the judges' sake that I am.

Yees! Me too. I have been missing her since.......when was she at worlds?

I have to disagree. To me, it looks like a big mistake not to send Yukari. I'm not a fan of Yukari, but she is a consistent good performer and was off the podium by little margin in 2008. Of course I maybe wrong.

I read that she will be there. Since I know you love French, here's the latest article about her :)

2006, when she skated to her Cancion triste (thanks to this routine I fell in love with figure skating) and Rachmaninov n.2. She won a sparkling silver. I feel she'll do everything to be even in Vancouver.

humm, I actually hope that it's the same panel of judges and technical specialists for both groups. Cause different people might look at the downgrades, levels, etc. differently, and this might not be fair to the group who skated to the panel that is slightly stricter.

But isn't it before, they seed each skaters, #1 seeded skater skates in one session, and #2 seeded skater skates in another session, then #3 skates in the #1's session, and #4 in #2's, and etc? did they change that?

The 2 groups are divided according to ISU World Standings. And I'm 99.99% positive is the same panel of judges for the whole event. It would be just too unfair to do it otherwise.. The judges are gonna be exhausted though.

Random reactions about the entries :

1) Weird that Azerbaiyan is reserving a spot for Men and Pairs. They didnt have any skater competing internationally in those categories.

2)I'm guessing Belgium isnt sending Blommaert cause he didnt make it for LP at both Euros and Junior Worlds so they thought "why bother? its not like he's going to qualify here and a top 10 placement is very likely with Kevin". Belgium even gave up an olympic spot in 2006 cause they didnt have a decent enough second male skater. I repeat, Im just guessing.

3) Lepisto and Poykio are going even though Korpi is the national champion. But the other 2 are reigning european medallists. Its a shame all three cant go.. :(

4) Marchei is listed, would she withdraw again? and there are no substitutes. Ouch for both Stefania Berton and Francesca Rio if Valentina indeed withdraws..

5) 27 PAIRS!! is that a record?thats good news. But Zhang/Wang instead of Dong/Wu for China..umm I dont think so.

6) What happened to Vartmann/Just. Germany can use 3 spots.. any news about them. I liked them.

7) Silna/Matsjuk from AUT are not entered.. :(:( why? and will Hoffman/Zavozin be able to finally end an international competition this season??

8) The young czech team Mysliveckova/Novak was chosen instead of Hajjova/Vincour.. good call. I wonfer if the same will happen with Verner/Brezina next season...

9) Whats up with the KAZ dance team and that TBC(to be confirmed??).

I don't quite get the way China selects the pairs to go for major competitions either. Is it by their nationals?

There's another Chinese Pair of Li/Xu who seemed to have almost completely disappeared this season. I think Winter Universidae was their only international competition this season.

I know she is still recovering from injury. So, if she withdraws, Carolina will be alone, which is the smartest choice considering Valentina is not in shape and the other girls are still not able to enter the top 10 (Stefania also began training pairs and Francesca just ended up junior worlds in 11th place, which is a good place anyway.) Yes, we have to rely on Carolina only, but we pretty much have no choice.

The Finnish Federation usually determine placements for world's depending on results at Euro's. I think that Laura being on a high and Susanna's experience will pay off and hopefully we can have 3 spots at next year's olympics. I love Kiira so much but she is not in top shape and only has the toe loop, salchow and loop as consistent jumps, Susanna has all the jumps in her repertoire and deserves her spot at worlds.

Valentina Marchei is a fighter and has a great personality on the ice, if fit she should do well again for Italy and hopefully finish in the top 20.
