There isn't a single US judge on the judging panel, or an American in the Tech group for dance.:frown:

There goes any hope for Medals for either B&A or D&W. Expect them to finish 4th and 5th, now.

Notice former Russian Judge, now judging for Israel, Katalin Alpern... involved in the toe tapping incident back in 1999... is a Techy. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Well. you know something, but you mix up things quite badly.
Katalin Alpern has never been russian, nor was involved in the tapping incident. She has nothing to do with it. That was in pairs not in ice dance, and was involving a russian and one ukrainian judge.

HOWEVER, she could indeed screw up things big time.
She is hungarian, judging for Israel. She was the one who with her fellow hungarian tipped the balanced in the judging panel in Nagano 2002 in favor of Chait / Sakhnovsky depriving Drobiazko / Vanagas from a deserved bronze.

And by the way, one single judge, has very little influence in the final outcome, how do you know even if a US judge is on the panel, the random computer selection won't drop exactly the US judge's marks??

Plus the influence is quite minimal, if let's say a judge will try to give 0.25 or 0.50 more to one team than the other.

The big influence will come from the levels, which is given by the technical controller.

You should not be so concerned, because there is no russian judge either. That makes things even.

Well, at least the Zaretskis don't have to worry about a repeat of what was their Europeans misfortune.

You bet. I am sure they will be "lifted". The only thing I can hope for is that the Canadian referee will slap her hands:)

Thanks for the correction herios!

No problem, in the mean time I performed a little reseach, because I forgot the name of the judge you mentioned with the tapping incident, he's Alfred Korytek, who used to be Ukrainian, and left for israel as well.

Well over at FSU, there's a few posters discussing the ice dance tech panel and apparently Dostatni, the tech specialist is considered firmly in the North American camp so maybe we NA fans have less to worry about! Of course, you know how it is with "conspiracy" theories! As I said before let's just hope the judges and tech panel just play fair!

I personally, being a Canadian, I am less worried about conspiracies, just because I like quite a few european team too, I have no scpcifical geographic bias. The only thing I am hoping for is FAIR judging.

How sad if we still have to be paranoid about the nationalities of the judges on the Ice Dance panel. Maybe I'm naive, but I am convinced we are past most of that nonsense now.

I'm not paranoid. And maybe I'm naive, too, but I think we are past that, too. The athletes deserve the best judging that can be given.

Isn't it Chuckm's job to whine about judging conspiracies. He seems silent this time around. LOL

Also I would like to make another clarification, tech panels are not judging panels. Though they have just as much power these days.

Good. I always agreed with that decision.

I think it's absolutely sick that some people are already whining and complaining about possible conspiracies 2 days before the competition. Jeez, people, nothing has even happened yet . . . this is beyond ridiculous! :disagree::banging::disapp:

Why are people complaining? Because there's no transparency in judging, and that was always the problem. We can't see who scores what, so all we can do is look at the people that will be there. No US judges = I'm not very hopeful.

I hope they are judged on merit, not on nationality. BTW, since this came up after Europeans: Z/Z would need to finish in the top 14 for their Olympic committee to send them to Vancouver. That's realistic for them, though I doubt they will repeat last year's 9th place finish.
