September 10, 2009 — After three years of competition, including one season on the senior level, Chelsi Guillen and Danny Curzon announced today that they have ended their partnership. Both Chelsi and Danny plan to continue their skating careers with other partners.

"Chelsi's time away from the ice following surgery gave us both time for reflection," Danny said. "We have come to realize that the paths that allow each of us to reach our fullest skating potential do not align with a continuation of the partnership."

In March, Chelsi underwent reconstructive surgery on her knee to replace her completely torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). Chelsi has not resumed training since the surgery, although Danny has continued to skate.

"We both plan to continue to skate, and we each wish to compete in pairs again in the future," he said. "We greatly enjoyed our time together and are proud of our many accomplishments together. We wish each other much success in the future."

The pair won a bronze medal in junior pairs at the 2008 U.S. Championships and finished 17th the following season while skating as seniors. They represented the United States on the Grand Prix circuit, finishing seventh at 2008 Cup of China. Chelsi and Danny also placed 10th at the 2008 World Junior Championships.

"We wish each other much success in the future," he said. "We would also like to thank our family, friends, coaches, doctors, trainers, and well-wishers, as well as U.S. Figure Skating, for their support during our time together; we could not have accomplished our goals without their support."

I guess you could see this coming. What a shame for her that her recovery time from injury has been so long. Best of luck to them in their future endeavors. I remember them both looking thrilled after skating clean in their short at Nationals this year. Unfortunately the long didn't go very well, but the bright side is that they always stayed positive and looked like they were enjoying themselves, even if they were struggling a little with their skating. And a trip to Jr Worlds a couple years ago isn't too shabby either.
