The golden waltz is a hard dance. I missed B/B, C/J and R/S.

1 Kimberly NAVARRO / Brent BOMMENTRE USA 29.19 14.96 14.23 5.70 5.45 5.85 5.85 0.00 #5
2 Madison HUBBELL / Keiffer HUBBELL USA 27.17 14.04 13.13 5.35 5.05 5.40 5.25 0.00 #4
3 Ekaterina RUBLEVA / Ivan SHEFER RUS 27.12 13.82 13.30 5.50 5.05 5.40 5.35 0.00 #3
4 Pernelle CARRON / Lloyd JONES FRA 26.28 13.36 12.92 5.35 4.90 5.25 5.20 0.00 #1
5 Zoe BLANC / Pierre-Loup BOUQUET FRA 24.08 12.40 11.68 4.85 4.35 4.70 4.85 0.00 #2

hubbells 27.17 1st
Nice light character but a a bit heavy in execution
good extension; quite good edges
klutzy in twizzles-hop 3 turns
overall a fair dance.

Navarro & Bommentre 29.19
Kim in fuchsia v necked number with elbow high white gloves
Kim much smoother on the turns than Hubbells; less hopping going on
Still a little too serious
and a little too far apart.
Definitely better to me.

Currently in warmup

OK they are back

Gorshkova Butikov 29.56
She in sleeveless bright yellow with a thick feather ruff at the skirt hem. A bit too footy in the quick turns and rather academic overall. One or two discomfortable leans. I don't think this was better than NavBoms.

Virtue &Moir 38.41
all in black-black elbow gloves and bare shoulder sleeveless dress for Tessa
Much better but Tessa's solo turn is not good. They need some practice. This may be beatable.
Good side by side f/w though! Much closer together than previous couples, but not always uniform
I found this rather overscored.

Pechalat Bourzat 35.53
He in lt grey brown tux & pants, she in sugar plum fairy pink puff tutu dress
Very, very nice dance. Very close, fast, light hearted. A little better leg line needed in a couple places.
About the same as V&M.. Particularly Nathalie's solo turn was smooth and integral to the dance, much better than Tessa's
Judges don't agree with me and crowd is annoyed.

Samuelson Bates 31.11
Emily in white backless, sleeveless dress with high collar and white elbow gloves. Evan typical black tux.
You can tell they are trained by the same coaches as Hubbells-nice extension and leg line but lack of smoothness
on the turns (better than Hubbells though) You can tell this is a new dance to them

Kerr Kerr 36.13
John in black tux. Sinead in an all white with big colored stones version of a tango dress-diagonal cut skirt with ruffles and all
White elbow gloves.
Lovely, light frivolous lilting character. Better leg line than P&B.
Some jumpiness to some turns.
I liked it very much. Wow, so do the judges!

The Kerrs were truly underscored here again today, but then again unfortunatly they usually are and robbed in addition.

Why are Emily and Evan's CD scores always so low? :sheesh: I feel like they always get shafted here, but perhaps I'm missing something..

While I adore Emily and Evan's skating, their Golden Waltz lacked speed and looked a bit careful in spots.

Wow, for all the talk of P/B possibly winning the event, they now have a lot of heavy lifting ahead for the rest of the competition.

I'm impressed that the Kerrs improved their score for this same dance by TWO POINTS!!! in a week. I know there are always variations in judging panels, but this dramatic an improvement in CD scores usually happens over the course of a season, not a week!

This event just got a lot more interesting.

When it comes up on on-demand on ice network, it's worth reviewing this Golden Waltz because it makes it clear why S&B are not yet getting top scores yet. While their posture is lovely, they are still hopping turns that ought to be smooth.
Compare how V&M do those turns in hold and how smooth the blade is supposed to run.

And the speed wasn't there. Check the size of their pattern, vs. V&M who were superfast. The Golden is a busy dance, so S&B's lovely extension doesn't show as much in it, either, as in say one of the less busy dances.

And they did not have the light, frivolous character they are supposed to have in the Golden (check the Kerrs for that).

They looked like and were scored like a somewhat better version of the Hubbells to me.

WooHoo!!!!!!!!!

Just got through watching Evan & Emily on icenetwork........gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous......thanks, IN! Fourth is great, I'm so happy for them, and the other couples of course. :)

Lol, I didn't get up at that ungodly hour to watch, but am overjoyed (to say the least) that I was able to watch what I missed on icenetwork. Crossing my fingers that my viewing pleasure remains just as enjoyable the rest of the afternoon.:agree:

Everyone seems to think of the Golden Waltz as one of, if not the most difficult of the compulsories. And a way to separate the field. I will miss compulsories.

I just finished watching the CDs from fsvids, and contrary to the "commentary" posted here, I thought V/M were wonderful. Some places they captured the character better than other spots, and there was nothing wrong with Tessa's solo turn. It's not meant to be done as a fast twizzle. Not overscored whatsoever. Maybe after the shoot the duck the unison wasn't totally perfect, but they did a beautiful job.

And they skated first of the top 4 couples that group, so the mark isn't bad, in fact it's pretty good. Not overscored at all.
