I just watched Kimmie Meissner at worlds 2006 on YouTube.

She scored 218.33.

Now earlier this year I remember the excitement when Yu-Na Kim was the first to break 200 under IJS with 207.03.

I also thought IJS was in effect at 2006 worlds.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Come on, guys. Let's do a bit of research before asking the entire board.

Let's check wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimmie_Meissner). Her highest combined total score was 189.87 at the 2006 Worlds. Hmm... that's funny. Why the 28.46-point difference?

OK, now let's check the official results for 2006 Worlds (http://www.isufs.org/results/wc2006/). Oh? What's this? They had a qualifying round back then. Let's see how Kimmie did... (http://www.isufs.org/results/wc2006/SEG005.HTM). 28.46... familiar number... Oh! I know! It's the extra 28.46 points that made her score 218.33!

See? Wasn't that hard at all.

IMO, while your response was true, it was also a bit harsh. Why not simply say Kimmie's 2006 score included a qualifying round that has since been discontined? It was an honest question that deserved a more respectful answer.

New posters, don't be put off by this. I've found most people are happy and willing to answer questions on this board without that kind of sarcasm and nastiness.

I think there's a difference between sarcastic humor and accusing someone of personality flaws just because of different opinions... oh wait, it's happening again. how surprising...

I just love it when I annoy someone to the point that they don't respond to the other posters who were reprimanding his/her unnecessary b~tching at another user for asking an innocent question.

It's probably always worth baring in mind that the written word is easily misinterpretted as you can't hear tone of voice so sarcasm often needs pointing out otherwise you just come across as harsh.

That said - this response seems to suggest that you were simply being harsh in the first place. If it bothers you so much that someone hasn't gone and researched something then simply skip the post and move on!

OMG,

Sorry for asking. I did not think it would upset you so. Not sure I would have figured that out since I did not know they scored the qualifying round. I did not know to check isufs.org either. Sounds like a simple thing to research if you know the place to look.

I saw the 218.33 and was curious. Thought this would be a good place to ask that kind of question. Seems like others on the board thought it was OK.

Most boards are happy to have more users/traffic.

No, no ask away! The majority of people will be happy to answer them

In 2006 there was a qualifiying round at worlds which was like a 1/4 of the total score or so.

I can tell you for a fact Golden Skate is one of those boards. Please feel welcome here, and if you have any issues that need a mod attention feel free to report them (the red and white triangle at the bottom left of each post is the button to do that with).

Also - a belated welcome to the boards, as we say here: post often, post long!

Thanks,

I have found this to be a great place with many knowledgeable members. I promise to post as often am not afraid to ask questions here.

By the way, I did try to do a little research before asking. I even found the scores on Wikipedia that were lower but I never go by anything I see on WIKI. If I had known to loolk at the isufs.org site I probably still might not have figured it out.

I have found that if you ask a question like this and someone responds with a simple answer, the thread will show up in google the next time someone is doing research. In fact if you go to google right now and type in

IJS highest score

This Thread comes up as the second item! Now that is cool! Others will find the answer quickly. Unfortunately they may get scared away by the harsh response. It would be nice if you could edit the entire thread and remove everything before the answer from Tinymavy15. Her answer was sort simple and respectful and wont scare people away.
