Kim fell on her lutz and Mao fell on her triple axel today.

Very proud of how Kim handled her fall on the flip and all this mental strength she's been able to produce when she's needed it most.

Question.

Maybe I've asked this in another thread, but PLEASE - can anyone answer this:

Why do simple PRACTICE videos get taken down from youtube by IOC? The two links above are already removed. It's not like they're available at nbcolympics.com, so I'm not sure what the point is of blocking this content.
It's not official programs - just people practicing... so why?

It makes me really frustrated. I feel like being a figure skating fan sucks in these moments. Can anyone please explain why IOC takes these down, what can be done about (if anything), and if there is another source to view them?
Again, I understand the copyright thing w/actual programs, aired on other TV stations, but why do practice clips get taken down?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

IOC is pretty strict about the clips while the Olympic games are going on. I guess that's due to some copyright or broadcasting right issues -- Olympic games draw a lot of viewers to authorized broadcasting companies. If many people use youtube, the companies who paid a lot to IOC won't be happy.

I heard that the ice got chewed up because the figure skaters share a rink with the short-track skaters, so a lot of skaters fell in practice yesterday.

what is all that fuss about skaters falls on practises? You know skaters are used to falls, thats what usualy happens. There is not one single skater in the world who never falls on a jump or anything else. Falls are normal.

Do you know if Olympic coverage will be "unblocked" once the Olympics are over? I really don't want to clog up my laptop by downloading a gazillion vids.

Falling just before a skate might unnerve a skater. Loads of people were nervous for Yu Na's 3F because she fell on it during warm-up I believe.

Ladies morning warmup is finished for today. I watched the last group. My ignorant view of it.

All the ladies are at the top of their game. No falls I noticed, but I was busy taking picturesa dn was only paying attention to one skater at a time. Kiki marked her program with no jumps. Yu-Na and Mao did most but not all of their jumps. Mao did 3A but only marked the 3A+2T. Outside the run through she landed 3A+1T. Joannie mostly marked her porgram. She looked determined. Rachael did some ofher jumps, mostly clean. Not so sure about the 3F+3T. It was at the other ned of hte ice, and her feet are so cliose it's often hard to tell when she two foots or not. Mirai also did some of her jump inthe run through. hey were clean. Did not notice if she tried 3Lz+3T. I might have missed it but I don't thnik she did.

Outside the run throughs, they all worked mostly their jumps and also their step sequences. Only a few spins were warmed up.

Looks like it will be a good competition tonight. It will be a clash of the titans. My bet remains on Yu-Na. Mirai could pass Rachael. Joannie looks in good shape for a medal. Miki seemed the most tentative or nervous of the group.

Official Ladies Free Practice

Japan's NHK channel (thank you Slingbox!) just showed this morning's practice live.

Rachael- No show.(Correction: it seems that NHK simply ignored her)
Miki- Skipped the first combo, did 3sal-2axel sequence, skipped most of the other jumps. Wearing yet another new costume.

Yuna- Nailed every single jump including 3lutz/3toe, 2axel/3toe and the 2nd 3lutz. Skated through most of the connecting moves. Looked calm and poised. Even 'practised' the smile as she bowed.

Mao - 3axel perfect, skipped what's planned to be the 2nd 3axel, 3flip/2lp, 3lp, 3flip/2lp/2lp, 3toe, eagle into (this move is back!) 2axel, skated through the step sequence. Looked ever so concentrated. Tarasova looking v. happy.

Joannie- Checked the overall program without the jumps.

Mirai- 2axel/3toe, 3flip slighly wild free leg, superb bielman, skated through, step sequence, superb combination spin, smile to finish.

I am so taking the afternoon off today

^ GSR, is it your impression that the tech specialists are being quite lenient on underrotaions here?

I haven't been paying too much attention to cheats. My photo position is up in the rafters and it is a zoo in the photo areas so I am a bit distracted on the details. But I guess my vauge impression is no. I do not remeber a lot of cases where I thought there was a cheat that was not called. I have more of an impression that the judges have been more generous in general with GoEs, though not with PCs. I thought they would go wild with marks in teh nines this competition and that really has not been the case.

I have a feeling Joannie will do really well.

From your lips to Skate Gods' ears. I want her to do well-not for a medal but just so she doesn't go home disappointed with the skate on top of everything else. She's been on my mind all day. I'm worried about how she'll be once the skate is over and she doesn't have the competition to occupy her mind. :(

I have a feeling that we are going to see some great skating tonight by the ladies. Good luck to all the ladies. And an special well wishes to Joannie. Be strong and be at peace. Your mother must be very proud of you.

I have always had a lot of respect for Joannie and what she did on Tuesday was simply beyong human. I was crying throughout her performance and this has never ever happened to me. My intuition is that compared to the major event in her life, fussing about jumps will seem so trivial. That will put her in a zone where she can relax and let her body do its job.

ita.

I cried while watching the performance online, for the second time, five hours after I'd seen it for the first. It moved me, and I know it will move me ten years from now. It was a defining moment. The medal is a mere triviality. She has transcended that. All that's left now is for her to skate through the pain.
