Why is Mao crying? She just won an Olympic silver medal. No small accomplishment. So happy for Orser. He finally has his Olympic gold medal....42

She's disappointed because she didn't do her best in the LP. She's pretty hard on herself for that. One time she even cried when she won a competition but didn't do her best.

Wow, bet those who think Mao's triple axels should be much bigger point getters will really blow their tops when they see Mirai, who didn't even do a triple-triple (she did her 3-2-2 and 2-3, right?), got higher TES than Mao ... Hmm about Lepisto's scores .. great the top flight ALL did so well ... huge admiration for Joannie for her courage and class ... glad for Miki for a good skate ... great competition!

Congratulations to Yuna, Mao, and Joannie!

OK, I buy the downgrades explanation and, yes, she was only a half point above Nagasu. But, why was she above Nagasu at all. Yes, I know. That's skating. I've been watching avidly for over 20 years now. There have been many more confusing things. This is just tonight's confusion.

She's older than Nagasu and her speed, spins, spirals are of comparable quality. She's more mature and if she gets half a point for that so be it.

MIRAI GOT NO DOWNGRADES BOO YA! I'm the most proud of Joannie and Mirai, Joannie for all she's been through and Mirai for staying strong after 3 standing ovations and monster scores back to back to back. Yuna and Mao too, they made their country proud.

I guess Carolina and Elene get to be the Joubert and Verner of the ladies. Sad for them, but overall a great night of skating! I agree with the placements, some of the scores shocked me but w/e. Ahh!

The size doesn't bother me, but they look like a train ran over them or something. So crooked.

The Torino ones I liked but later I thought it was a very primitive solution actually- after I had visited a hardware store and seen metal details of that shape on hole size proportion... Why are they pushing for some innovative medal design in? Isn't it just the winter games with this craze? I don't remember the 08 summer games medals being anything other than round and of average size...

Mao improved her triple axels to get them all ratified under the harshest tech specialist there is. And, if I'm not mistaken, she improved one of her pancake spins (I notice that Mao keeps on improving little things in her skating throughout the years, no small feat when you're at her level). I will fight anybody who says Mao is a disappointment.

The judges were just amazed Lepisto managed to land more than 2-3 triples.

 But, seriously...It's like a European lady just HAS to be near the top, no matter how they actually skate. I like Lepisto to an extent, but come on, she didn't outskate Mirai in that LP. She always pops at least one jump.

Mao popped a jump and 2footed another and then had three turns out of it into the combination. She lost up to 10 points in TES with those mistakes, plus spins are a part of TES and Mirai's IMO are even better than Mao's. Clean Mao would have had significantly higher TES than Mirai.

I am so happy for Joannie, after a rough season and week, any medal must mean the world to her. I have to admit that that was the first time I saw Yu-na show a lot of emotion. She skated a perfect sp and lp and is very deserving of the gold medal.....Now for Mao, she looks so unhappy and disappointed. :( She obviously has worked really hard this season and doesnt feel like she delivered. Also, I gottta give my props for her courage and mental strength to land the three 3-A that everyone doubted that she can complete. Hopefully, this will spur her to vie for the gold in the next Olympics in her home country, Japan at Sochi.
