As for the potpourries which Yukari's mother mentioned were her( I mean Yukari's mother) handmade. The lavendor used for the potpourries were picked from Yukari's mother's garden. She made the potpourries for selling at the ice shows in order to raise funds for Yukari's costume.

Thanks to the earnings of the potpourries, Yukari could supplement the expenses for her "Firebird" costume which was her mother's handmade, too.

Yukari said " I know some people have opinions (may mean criticism) about my "firebird" costume, but I like it. I'm happy to skate wearing my mother's handmade costume."

I looooove you, Yukari!

Aw ... I'll miss her. I always loved her skating, and never minded her leg wrap. Wishing her the best in her future!

I always thought Yukari's LP at '08 Worlds was such a great performance and had I been judging that day Yukari would have medaled.

Wishing her all the best.

Yukari always had great programs, beautiful spins and she had a way of engaging the audience. I felt so bad for her when she did not make the Olympic team. I will miss this very talented young lady. Best of luck to her. I am sure she will be successful in the future.

She's a class act. All the best to her as she builds her new career!

I'm going to miss her so much! And I always loved her Firebird LP, including the costume! And I never had a problem with her leg wrap.

Good-bye, Donut Queen!

I agree, that's a touching story about the potpourries bags her mother made to help pay for her customes. In a way iam sad i won't see her again as i think she was a very talented skater. the competition is so difficult in Japan with the ladies. She will be remembered. hopefully she can skate in a few japanese show also.

Such a shame! Her Giselle program was exquisite, one of my favorite programs ever

ITA.

I'm so sad to see her retire, but given the politics & fierce competition w/in the Japanese FS, I can see why she wishes to retire.

Yukari will be missed by me for sure! I love her smile and the positive energy and joy that she brings to the ice. I'm especially sad that her career has been cut short because I really feel she was starting to come into her own last season with Giselle and this season with her Firebird. Those are by far my two favorite programs of her's; unfortunately, injuries have really taken their toll on this talented and beautiful skater. I wish her success in all her future endeavors , but being in the USA, I'm sad that I may never see her and other international retirees again.

Gotta admit it, the leg wrap drove me nuts. But I loved her Firebird program including the costume! Much happiness to Yukari!

I am really sad to hear that Nakano Yukari has decided to retire. I had hoped to watch the 24 year old - one of the few ladies who is able to master the triple axel - at the World championships in Turin. It must be bitter for her that she had been overlooked by the JSF for the Olympics - her big dream since her childhood remains unfulfilled. My best wishes for your future, Yukari-san!

Yukuri never got the credit she deserved. We all forget about her beautiful triple Axel and she was certainly one of the best spinners of the decade.
