I am quite looking forward to this movie when it does make its way out of Japan with subtitles. Always have been mesmerized by Japanese television drama, movies, and much of their culture

Most probably it should come out as a DVD so you'll be able to buy it though Amazon, etc...
Nishida was an assistant coach for Miki when she was with Carol Jenkins, IIRC.

At least they're using a real skater as the protagonist in this Japanese film. How come they never think of doing that in an American skating movie? Tonight that latest Cutting Edge movie (made for TV) is on one of the cable channels. Just watching them practice gives me anguish. They skate straight up and down into their blades, as if they're wearing hockey skates. Even in the long-shots with the stunt doubles doing the skating, there are no interesting moves. Their steps are so rudimentary that they wouldn't have won bronze in 1936. Their coach is a Chinese pairs coach who has sent three gold medalist pairs to the Worlds--and he insists on training an ex speed skater who's never trained in figure skating but somehow knows how to do an overhead lift right away. And--get this--they've just started training for Nationals (never mind going to Regionals or Sectionals), which is three weeks away. I'm betting they'll win, because goodness knows Evora and Ladwig don't have such great single loop jumps...

Not to mention the generic pop music, which almost makes me yearn for Carmen, which we've pretty much all agreed is so overused that it ought to be retired.
