The tone is a little acid but Verner has always been a Plushenko defender.
I want to see the too acid then. In most of his articles, Yagudin is the perfect boy and Plushenko the idiot. How conveniently he is forgetting Yags tour problems. Does he know Yags friends and he comments on Plushenko's? Living up their rivalry after a decade is ridiculous. And Vaitehovskya is a known Yag gusher.
In which planet he is a defender? Venrer was never a defender of Plush in the years after Torino. Excuse you have read his articles before last spring??? Anyway I have learnt to read a lot before jumping to conclusions.
It seems something is going on with federation, one article after the other this week, like counter strikes. First Plushenko talks with Medvedev, then government wants to start searching were the money go in fs after this dialogue, Rodnina answers, Pisseev yesterday, and now I read Chaikovskaya's interview. And the two articles of Vaitehovskya and Hodorovsky at the right time. And I have read articles of them long before.
I dont think the timing of the articles are random. If you find a response from the other side please translate it, cause there is always two sides of a story.

And this is Piseev talking about the accreditation issues in Olys. Verner should have done a homework and not just quoting other articles as he said himself.

There is a radio interview of Plush today, speaks about stuff of this article also

Vesti FM: Evgeni, hello! There have been reports that you have decided to sell the car, gift from the President, because you need money to prepare for the upcoming season. Is this true?
- Plushenko: First of all, I want to thank our state, Dmitry Medvedev, Vladimir Putin, the Fund for the Olympians, for such generous gifts. I really want and intend to serve and compete for another 4 years to the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and made the decision: Yes, this gift from the government I have decided to exchange for money and this money will be spent on costumes, to pay coaches, choreographers, coach PFD, I think it is reasonably, because I want to bring Russia more medals.

Vesti FM: Tell me, can you disclose such financial details: in general, how much money should be in full preparation for the Olympic Games?
- Plushenko: I think that is for everyone differently.

Vesti FM: Well, for you, specifically?
- Plushenko: There is a component of medicine, there are coaches on the PFD, there is rehabilitation, there are coaches and choreographers, a choreographer who puts the program, there are other choreographers who are constantly working with me. I think that each team, have different situations. If we expect any medals, it is, of course, huge, huge cost. I can not now specifically to give a figure, I think it would be wrong, but this is a huge, huge money. If we take the football or hockey, it is natural, for figure skating it is much less money.

Vesti FM: In Yakutsk are presented the "People's Gold Medal", which intend to deliver to you. Tell me how you feel about it, and will you go to get her?
- Plushenko: You know, thank you very much to all fans and all fans of figure skating, I feel this support is from the people, just from the people. Thanks a lot for this medal, to me it is very nice, and I'm ready, once again I say, ready to continue to compete. And many thanks to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who congratulated me, and said that for us it's not silver, for Russia this is gold... and you know, after that, I want still to skate, compete, train and seek gold, real gold medals.

Vesti FM: You know, we discussed with the listeners on the air, after passed your performances, what happened to you, and your second place. Some pitied you and say that it is unfair, other listeners said that you not were 100% showed for all you capable. You are with this point of view agree?
- Plushenko: Well, I've watched several times my programs, and think that I skated good, I've all done in the programs what was planned, and I think that spend too much time on this story is not necessary, gave me a second place, so given me, mean -one needs more than a gold medal.
Once again I want to say that I have lots of medals, and gold and silver, not should be worry, I must continue with fight, must defend my position, must work hard for country, my country. So, I even no longer want to return to the theme of that story. It should be remembered, and with the new cool open a new chapter of life and go, continue working.

Vesti FM: And one more question: Alexei Mishin said that "can not compare you and those, who do not have no name, no titles", I'm just quoting. About you, he said that you could row money with shovel, if you have not gone to the Olympics, but since you've decided to return on competition, to you should compensate material losses. Do you agree? Well, obviously we are talking about Russian fans, and of Russia as a state, that to you must compensate those losses which you carries, because you remain in sports and not doing commercial shows.
- Plushenko: I have said many times, that in figure skating is investing a lot of money, but this money simply do not see athletes and coaches, so I think that athletes should be titled to receive the normal money, right money. Coaches, who bring multiple Olympic champions, world champions, too, should receive the normal money, and not to move, because of a desperate situation abroad and train our rivals. If we take now, how many of our coaches went abroad, we can look at the Olympic Games, World Championships, how much now our Russian coaches will go with foreigners. And why did they go away? Because they offer the normal conditions, the right conditions. Maybe it's not some fabulous money, but normal, to live, to feed their families. There is a correct attitude towards these people - to the coaches. Here we must first of all with this, probably, to start.

Vesti FM: Evgeni, tell me, these problems were known and before the Olympics. Why you talk only after her, that money goes into the unknown?
- Plushenko: I think it is well known for over 30 years, I just, many called the "silent type", and this is a great coaches, a great specialists. Not all athletes can open mouth and say that there are problems, and, apparently, not all coaches are willing and ready to talk that there are difficulties and have problems. But while they not talk about it, nothing can be changed.

Seniorita, sorry for not answering your post before. It was a thoughtful comment, that likewise demanded a thoughtful replay from me :) So, let's take it step by step:
  • I am actually not all that knowledgeable about Russia. I left as an adolescent and have only visited twice in the 20+ years since. As to Werner - he has nurtured many personal relationships within figure skating community; in this, I think he is second only to Vaitsekhovskaya (I think she knows everything). Besides, not working for any Russian publication I think he is not bound by any political considerations and can print anything he likes.
  • My personal take on Plushenko's character: I think he is what one would call "provincial". I don't think he is a bad person, but I think he lacks class. In part, this is due to his strong personality in combination with being away from family at such an early age. If I were to really play the shrink, I'd say that even when Evgeny's mom did join him in Petersburg, the roles were largely reversed. He was by then the real head of the family. As you know, I've always maintained that it is fundamentally wrong to have a boy this young living on his own, no matter what is this made in the name of.
  • Accreditation - I know nothing about Euros accreditation. However, the issue of Olympic accreditation has been a sore point for a while. It's not just Rudkovskaya - many officials got it and were able to spend their time in the "Russian House" whereas legitimate sports-related people such as K&N's choreographer did not. That Rudkovskaya got in on the action is rather understandable; that the officials acted this way is deplorable. You are right to point out Piseev's hypocritical two-step, but this doesn't make it right.
  • I actually agree with you that Mishin probably wanted to train Plushenko for 2010. However, little things about some strains in the relationship have bubbled up before. I think Mishin is delighted to again be able to train an athlete of Plushenko's talent and caliber; I don't see how a person of Mishin's integrity (he is someone who did his best to almost stand by the Protopopovs back when) can be happy about Evgeny's recent antics.
  • Apartment. I don't know the details, but even if he can't live there because of divorce proceedings - how is it the federation's fault?! It is now like the situation of, say, Berezhnaya back in the 90's when she had to be provided with an apartment by the city in order to be able to live on her own. He can "get by" (that's putting it EXTREMELY mildly) on his own just fine. He already got his "reward" and it's rather hypocritical to demand more.
  • City assembly. Back when Plushenko and Sikharulidze both went for public office, I was very skeptical about both of them. However, Anton has surprised me - he seems to really be involved with many issues, and takes his post very seriously. The same is not true of Evgeny. Being a deputy is a full time job. One could share it with some show commitments but not the kind Plushenko has carried. I'd place at least a part of the blame on the electorate, but either way it leaves a sour taste in one's mouth. The way to do public service while not sacrificing one's career is how Kwan or Petrenko do it - they support causes, the represent their countries as Good Will ambassadors, but they don't commit themselves to what they cannot sustain.
  • I've read this interview. What he says there is SIMPLY NOT TRUE! True, figure skating hasn't gotten adequate support from the state in the past, but IT GOT PLENTY THIS TIME AROUND! Vaitsekhovskaya mentioned in her blog that she's loath to defend Piseev in anything, but this time the accusation is NOT TRUE! By her research, Mishin's group got a total of 6,150,106 rules from the start of this season to the Olympics - that's more than $200K. That doesn't include the prizes Plushenko and Mishin both got after the Games. So - Plushenko has NO HIGH GROUND ON THIS.
  • I think both Werner and Vaitsekhovskaya have just had it with Plushenko at this point. The latter, btw, has always had an ambiguous relationship with him, but that's sort of besides the point. I take your "cynic's" position that this was precipitated by Plushenko's withdrawal from Worlds. In a way that's true - he's gotten so many exemptions from federation rules that it's reasonable to assume he has at least some obligations to it. I mean, no one minds Domnina & Shabalin skipping Worlds - they haven't asked for special treatment (they might've gotten it anyway, but that's a separate story), and can therefore do whatever they please. I think the lesson here is - do not keep making exceptions to the rules; level the playing field for everyone, and then you don't get those disappointments.
  • Verner certainly did think Plushenko should've won the Olympics. However, I don't think this has to do with Russian medal count as much as with Verner's own preferences in figure skating. He's not consistent in that he want to see less jumping in, say pairs (he wants to see more of Protopopovs style skating), but he does want to see more quads for men. That is certainly his right, and he is not alone in this - Stojko, anyone?
  • Finally, responding to Plushenko's comments regarding coaches. The vast majority of Russian coaches have now returned home. Of course, Russians are especially jarred by Shpilband and Zueva having coached the two top winners for this Olympics in ice dancing but they are different. Shpilband has never coached in Russia in the first place, and Zueva has had repeated problems with Piseev.

Thank you P for your answers, I was asking questions because I really read black and white articles and I knew truth is somewhere in the middle, you cleared somethings. I dont know about the money and it is not my bysineess anyway, I read an interview of Pisseev this week though, I can find it but not now, it was this week for sure after we talked here that he didnt have contract as federatrion with Plushenko cause he wanted to give him 50000 to 70000 rumbles per month and Plushenko didnt accept it(obviously found it not enough) and they signed nothing, so thats why he didnt get 10% from his income. So i dont know what this money are that V refers to, but I m sure in skaters pocket they arrive the less.Whats the point of Plushenko saying it loud to Medeev (i cant spell it now) that federations most money doesnt arrive to skaters training but are skattered left and right?Even to support his position Piseev didnt say about these money you wrote, he said they had the monthly salary of Olympic Team and the doctors when they needed it, plus free training ice (i laughed with this) whats the use Piseev not talking about the 200 K , unless he doesnt want to open this subject himself and being searched where money went.
Anyway fs is not a rich sport, and I have a soft spot for people like evgeni who come from poor background and are responsible for the family income so I have concluded they have a constant indecurity of money shortage even now they are sort of rich. It is not like Russia though has sponsors like Yunas. Imagine someone like Plushenko in Korea, three time oly medalist with a bunch of titles.

I m sure Plushenko had a special treatment of some kind, everyone can imagine why they did that, but I m not sure to what extent, I m not conviced over the years that Verner and V are writing completely unbiased and the timing looks kind of wrong to me.
If i dont make sense it is because i just came from palavela where I almost was to faint from fatigue. But i appreciate big your effort to reply to my wondering.

I wouldn't mind Plushy whining because he is way ahead of the current top 'male' skaters technical wise.

Wrong. He's ahead only as far as quad jumps are concerned.

The article and interview paint Plushenko as a self-absorbed egocentric douche... Anyone surprised?

And a whole team of choreographers was needed to put that stinky long program together? Really? That is kind of sad...

Well can you imagine how much worse his LP choreo might have been without such a big team working on it? :)

Plushenko tops????

Plushenko is not . He can't even do a decent sit spin. He certainly does not skate to the music. The judges gave him a present at the Olympics with a silver medal which I do not think he deserved. His landings on the jumps were very shaky, his footwork was just ok. His sit spins are not low to the ice like other skaters. He should retire. Now.

Thank you for the translation, Ptichka!

It is very interesting to see that Russian journalists are complaining about Plushenko's behavior, as I thought he was given a blank check thanks to his results in years past.
