Its not like Polina has great skating skills herself. And the issue wasn't that the programs were empty. The issue was the programs in and of themselves, the choregraphy it did have, and the fact that Polina is messy. For the most part in the way she positions and holds her body. Frankly, if I were her coach I actually would at this point give her less choregraphy and teach her how to use her arms to the music, and hit the choregraphy she does have beautifully. Given her more would frankly make it worse.

And watching Gao's short especially, Gao's positioning, attention to the music is better-a lot better than Polina's.

And as for Gao not getting an edge call at Thornhills, that I absolutely think needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

I think Shelepen's not receiving an edge call on her flip at Courcheval also needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

I also agree that Gao is closer to a total package than Shelepen at this point, I mean, at least she is making the effort. Watching the two skate in a row really helped me see the difference.

Christina uses her arms better and is making facial expressions, and while she may still be gangly and angular, she isn't messy. Her 3f-3t is also much nicer to look at than Polina's 2a-3t an 2a-3t-3t, she has more spring and flow out of the jumps. Poliina didn't seem to try and emote to the music, and her choice of music for her FS is just very juniorish in addition to her costume for it, I mean she's tall and slender now, she could look a lot less juniorish if she tried.

I have a feeling that Adelina is going to make a big splash in Austria, I was a bit unsure about her given the end of her last season, although it could be just nerves. But reports were that she was amazing in her Test Skates. And well she was just young I think because of the end of her last season perhaps a lot of the hype has died down too. She's a lovely little skater, and I can see for example the American judges adoring her (for example).

I think she'll get a lot of support because well lets face it the Russians do tend to get a lot of political support in general, and the North Americans now this. If they have to except that a Russian will be competitive, you know the Americans and company will go with the Russian whose skating qualities they admire. And they'll love Adelina.

And the thing is Lucky Star, the judges hitting Polina Shelepen hard for these issues could be the best thing for her, because it would force her to improve.

Well, I really think she improved already and lookes much better than last season. There's still a lot of work, but now she skates really better, with more speed and has better programs (I really like her SP, it suits her). And her spins are much better now (I just love her layback!). She is not in her best shape yet, but she did amazing job considering she almost didn't skate this summer at all because of her knees pain. I think she and her coach finally choose the right direction and just need more time... Maybe I'm too optimistic but it's just the way I see it...
And I agree with you, Adelina is a lovely skater, I think judges will like her (and they will like Liza more when she will skate cleaner).
BTW, Nikol Gosviani did really well at the test skates too, she has all triples and 2A-3T combo. She also has nice spins. Here is her last year SP (she kept it)

If she will do well in Japan she will get the second spot... And I think she has a chance too

Yasmin was also well received by the judges at Courcheval. I think she could very well acheive pet status if she skates cleaner programs at her 2nd event, she is just so great to watch. Also Kiri Baga got really high PCS last season, I know she doesn't have the most technical difficulty and her condition is still in question, but she will also score well if she skates well.
