Pechalat and Bourzat FRA should win both the short dance and the entire event with ease. They have excellent programs for both the SD and the FD, have prepared carefully by skating several summer competitions, and should easily breeze into the GPF with 30 points after TEB. Their short dance to music from the Dr. Zhivago soundtrack is an excellent one!

However, the last Grand Prix spot will be decided here at TEB, and the result is by no means certain. Chock and Zuerlein USA could make the Grand Prix Final by finishing second here. The other teams skating here are mathematically eliminated, as even a win would not garner them enough points to pass Hoffman and Zavozin for HUN the last spot. However, Riazanova and Tkachenko RUS or Carron and Jones FRA could win the silver here over Team Chock.

In the short dance, Chock and Zuerlein's previous scores were lower than Carron/Jones and Riazanova/Tkachenko. However Chock/Zuerlein had 2 costly mistakes at Skate Canada. Madison had a problem in the twizzles, which cost them both a level and GOE (and this team normally has good twizzles). More peculiar, their Rotational Lift was only called level one. They & their coaches should have been able to easily put in a higher scoring lift. Consequently, their well-choreographed SD to Edith Piaf songs could yield a significantly better score here than at Skate Canada. And their FD was significantly better than the other teams, other than Pechalat's. I think they will take the silver here.

If they don't, the team most likely to finish second would be Riazanova and Tkachenko. Their Short Dance is a lovely one, set to Sviridov's waltz from Snowstorm. However, they skated it very well at Skate America, and there are no easy places for them to pick up higher technical scores than they did there.

Carron and Jones are skating on home ice, but in my opinion, their programs are not as interesting and well-skated as either Riazanova & Tkachenko's or as Chock & Zuerlein's. They skated their short dance well at Skate Canada, and so have no easy way to gain technical points. Nonetheless, they are skating to a Jacques Brel waltz, they are on home ice, and they should have the advantage of the support of the audience. It is never smart to ignore the effects of those advantages.

For those who miss the CD, here are past scores from earlier events on the Grand Prix for those who are competing here in bold, with some high scores of the season for comparison:

Davis & White Golden Waltz at Skate America 14.58 (66.97 at NHK/63.62 at SA)

I was expecting higher for P/B than at COC, because there, if you rewatch, there were quite significantly out of unison on the twizzles, not so much here.

By the way, some stuff I really liked:
The twizzles of Cannuscio & Lorello, for actually fitting the character of the Viennese waltz (so maybe I would jump up their scores?)
The speed of Riazanova & Tkachenko throughout, although I would have liked to see more character in it.
The Golden Waltzes of Chock and Riazanova, although I would like to have seen a little more speed in Chock's.
The lovely costume of Nathalie Pechalat-great 1900's feeling.

Things I didn't like:
The costumes and music of Carron/Jones
The costumes of Ralph/Hill (but they shouldn't have been dumped quite that far
The small sloppinesses of Pechalat/Bourzat (I think they might be nervous on home ice?) Otherwise, it was beautiful.

TES higher than D/W for P/B - I like the French team very much and hope that they'll get the credit for their hard work this season.

I agree, can't see the team that got below 40, got over 12 points jump in few weeks.

This season, many dance couples have had issues with the content of the Short Dance on the first competitive outing, then took the feedback and fixed/improved things for the second outing. Cannuscio/Lorello's PCS went up a couple of points between CoC and TEB, their big jump was on the TES side--but at CoC, their dance was just too simple, too many level 1 elements, and neutral or negative GOE's on those. Also some oopsies on execution. All these things are possible to improve in a short period.

This is very true, plus CoC was C&L's senior debut. 31+ for the TES (and assuming lower level GOE's) argues they got some really awesome levels here. Isabelle is blogging for ice-dance.com. I'll be looking forward to reading it tonight.

Besides, judges probably love those clever waltzy twizzles, started from a nice waltz jump, that go around the end of the rink, and lilt to the music almost as much as I do :)

I can't say I'm a fan of his peach lace shirt with the satin lapels though :scowl:

They are already getting credit for their hard work, with the scores they have been getting this fall!

Riazanova/Tkachenko outscored Bobrova/Soloviev by .01. But they did it with higher PCS. Whoa.

Riazanova / Tkacenko have one of the most beautiful SD this season. I like it the most as well among the russian teams. However, they don't have a similar strong FD.

Yes, that's how I see it. Their Mexico program has no Mexico in it at all  and yet their SD is exquisite.

I just watched the US sports coverage of the SD on TV.

Tracy says Carron & Jones only got level 1 for their midline step, which explains why they are lower here than at Skate Canada.

Cannuscio and Lorello made the US sports coverage on TV and you can really see on the big screen why they scored so much better here at TEB than they did in China. They learned a lot in 3 weeks

There's a team that might benefit from leaving Delaware and going to one of the Detroit coaches.

 I really liked Canuscio & Lorello. At CoC, I liked them ,but I thought they'd be ones to watch for next year.. WoW! That was quick.

I didn't have time to bum around on YouTube today ,and their WSS FD from CoC doesn't leap out of my memory..still , neither did their SD before today, so I'm really looking forward to their skate tomorrow. To quote Isabella in the KnC , " Holy Moly!" and "Geez , Louise! "... (Gotta love 'em.)

completely agree about R/T..I love the SD.. Their FD...hmmmm. As doris says ,it lacks Mexico..A bit more colour in their costumes would help , but there's no real "andale!" in their choreography. I like them lots ,though.

I really like R/T more than B/S, theyr should be #1 Russian team, IMO. Hopefully they can learn quick in two weeks, pull their FD score over 10 points like the other team. I love their edges, love the way they move, particularly him.

I don't see this happening. They trailed B/S in the last few years, I don't see why it would be different this year.
