C&S (12) again edge W&L (10) for bronze, but no GPF for either team. Den&Sta either had a mistake or G&G upgraded their FD like their OD, because Den&Sta TES scores are low for them, although the scores here were lower all around in comparison to COR for dance. Have to wait for Detailed Results. Congrats to the medalists!

So, the 6 Ice Dance GPF Finalists are:

1. Tatiana Navka & Roman Kostomarov [RUS]- 24 pts.
2. Albena Denkova & Maxim Staviyski [BUL]- 21 pts.
3. Tanith Belbin & Benjamin Agosto [USA]- 21 pts.
4. Elena Grushina & Ruslan Goncharov [UKR]- 18 pts.
5. Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon [CAN]- 16 pts.
6. Isabelle Delobel & Olivier Shoenfelder [FRA]- 14 pts.

Congratulations to the finalists! An excellent group, IMO (although :( for C&S not being there, but they are the 1st alternate), but the competition between the teams has been tough and interesting. I think it will an exciting GPF final for dance. :)

It is a really good mix of nationalities. That's kind of nice to see, because it hasn't really happened in the other disciplines. I'm really happy about everyone who made it.

I don't really see many different nationalities, or styles. The French and the Canadians train under the same FRENCH coach. The Americans, Russians, and Ukrainians train with RUSSIANS. So, I think, style-wise, it's a Russo-Franco-Bulgarian Final.

Hooray for C&S making the podium again and being first alternate to the GPF. It must be so hard for them to be passed by teams they have beaten in the past. Whatever happened when they finished 3rd at Worlds, it was not their fault. Their skating has improved a great deal since then; it's time they were recognized for it.

Their trip to the judge's doghouse reminds me of Bourne and Kraatz's drop after they criticized the judging. I hope C&S will continue to skate, and continue to improve, just as B&K did, and hopefully will be back on the World's podium soon.

C&S have imrpoved, but I think they need to refine their technique just a little more. They do have amazing speed though. I think the teams they used to beat have also improved, which is hurting their placements.

ITA, Antilles. I think that just looking at this year and this system, the programs and competition between the top ice dancing teams has been very strong overall. It may be true that the judges were more biased against C&S last season because of the controversial season before and that is why the system needed to change obviously, and based on what I've seen this season under COP, I do not count C&S out of the medal hunt in Germany. Their FD, although good, is not their stongest and it's true that teams like B&A, Del&Scho, G&G, and D&L have all improved and upgraded their difficulty and are therefore rightly benefiting from that. I thought that was what people wanted to see in ice dance: That what you placed two years ago doesn't remain your placement if others improve and become competitive with previously higher ranked teams. It's starting to become that way, but it will still take more time. It's nice to see real competition between all these teams.

I will wait and see what happens in Dortmund, how all the final programs look, to see how the scoring goes vs. COP. I think the 4 teams (besides N&K and Den&Sta) in the GPF plus C&S are all in the hunt for the bronze medal, so we're hopefully going to continue see movement there based on the quality/difficulty of the programs and performances rather than on where these teams placed the previous year. It will be nice to see it become true for the top two spots as well, but then again I think N&K and Den/Sta have the edge on the other teams because they are superior in their overall skating abilities, so I don't dispute their positions at the top at this moment. I like C&S and I hope to see them continue to focus on their skating and being competitive.

As for the rest, I thinking (and hoping) that all or most of that controversy is in the past and from what I've seen so far, COP would be a better system for them and ice dance in general than the old one in the long run. And there will always be subjectivity about choreography and interpretation, there's no way to make that entirely objective, but hopefully the judges will become more consistent per the actual performances from competition to competition. So, teams have to do what they can and mostly improve difficulty, technique, and overall skating skills to stay competitive.

While I agree that C&S situation smacks a little of B&K's I don't think that is entirely to blame.
ITA with those who said that other teams around them have improved and upped their technical difficulty in the past few seasons and so there is more competition for the Israelis.

Having not actually seen any of the skating this season yet, I am not in a position to comment on the specifics of competitions and the CoP this season, however what strikes me from reading around and seeing the results so far is that there seems to be far more movement in ice-dance than in previous years.
In the past I have seen teams win competitions based more on reputation than on their actual performance on a given night, particularly in ice-dance. My impression is that with the CoP this can no longer be the case and that maybe goes some way to explaining the C&S situation. As I said though I haven't seen the skating yet and I may be wrong. ;)
