I can't make up my list with a lot more thought and agonizing! But I'd like to put in a cheer for Tonichelle, for putting Roca and Sur in her Top Five. They're a lovely, musically sensitive couple who deserve more fanfare than they get. Last time I looked, I couldn't even find anything of theirs on YouTube, and that's a shame.

My favorites are awesome athletes but each touched me on an emotional level....

Ladies
Michelle (so obvious...)
Tonya Harding (sucha waste of talent)
Debi Thomas (for proving that black women do skate)
Katarina Witt (first skater to take my breath away and inspire me to hit the rink)
DivaKwara (for proving that it doesnt matter where you start, only where you finish)
Irina (for being the gold standard in suck it up and keep moving)
Angela Nikodinov (for proving that skating is about more than winning)

New Favorites
MiRai (once she learns to compete, she will be legendary)
Miki (when you think of where Miki started - remember Worlds with that truly epic in its awfulness Charlotte? - to the stunning beauty that is today's Miki, well what can you do bbut root for her?)

Men
Alexei (His unique combo of technical & artistic skating always moved me)
Kurt Browning (I'm a footwork junkie and his is beyond compare)
Brian Boitano (what would Brian Boitano do?)
Brian Joubert (yowza)

Pairs
Shen & Zhao (Greatest. Of. All. Time)
Brasseur & Eisler (Most. Underappreciated. Of. All. Time)

Dance
Belbin & Agosto (Their fundamental joy to be on the ice is a beautiful thing to behold and I actually cried at their fourth place finish at the Olympics.)
Bourne & Kraatz (Didn't appreciate dance until their Riverdance at the Olympics)

I was blessed to see them skate LIVE in 99... they're the reason I gave Ice Dance another try. So glad I did because it's opened up my world in a big way!

and there are vids of them on youtube, just not very many... and not their best routines (IMHO)

Michelle Kwan
:)

Welcome nixdh!! :)

Mine are: Michelle Kwan (the Kween!!, all time favourite of mine), and then in no particular order - Sasha Cohen (hot!! I agree), Debi Thomas (great programs to Dead or Alive and Frankie Goes to Hollywood ), Katarina Witt (hot), Lu Chen (so introspective), Kurt Browning (the best entertainer!!), Brian Boitano (I don't know why but I like him and his programs, especially the 88SP), Maria Butyrskaya (drama on ice), Silvia Fontana (hoootttt!!), Kristi Yamaguchi (always enjoyed her programs), Tonya Harding (great jumps!), Torvill and Dean (magic)

but many other skaters gave me many positive emotions!! And I'm grateful to them to have given to me that!! :)

Too many to mention, but I must admit I have a general tendency to love headcases and former headcases. There is something in them that intrigues me endlessly. Thus not being easy being a figure skating fan... sigh...
