Predictions?

Men
Han Yan for the gold, Jason Brown for silver. I can see Brown beating Yan in the SP, but not in the FS unless he lands the triple axel (or quad). Artur Dmitriev for bronze.

Ladies
Julia Lipnitskaia for gold. Courtney Hicks for silver, but perhaps Satoko Miyahara can beat her.

Ice Dance
Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin should take gold. Lauri Bonacorsi/Tracis Mager and Valeria Zenkova/Valerie Sinitsin will battle for silver.

In the showdown between Han Yan and Jason Brown, it's really about if Yan would beat himself.

Yan has the jump arsenals, which Brown is lacking. So far their records show, though each has 15 points for a gold, Yan has higher TES, equal PCS, and wins every tie breakers. The uncertainty only comes from the high risk factor in Yan's program. Should be interesting.

Under the circumstances, I hope Jason goes for the 3A in the LP. However, the temptation may be to be safe, and assure the JGPF slot. I hope he skates well, and is happy with his results, whatever his choice.

Miyahara has a good chance of beating Hicks for the silver. Her score in Poland was 10 points higher than Hicks' in Australia.
I also think Koch/Nuchtern will challenge Bonacorsi/Mager and Zenkova/Sinitsin for the podium. Their scores are all quite close.

Artur Dmitriev deserves a special prize for one of the most amusing mistakes. It seems he forgot that this is junior competition, not senior one and a mandatory jump is lutz but not axel. He made 3F, 3A and 3L+3T, loosing the last combo and a lot of points. It would be sad if it wasn't so funny. :)

Wow, Courtney Hicks with two deductions, 43.95 and down all the way in 4th . And still 17 more skaters to come!

Nice going by Manella of Brazil, I hope he can keep his 6th place standing after the FS, Pretty happy with the men's standings after the SP in general. On the ladies side, Oh Courtney... :disapp:

Courtney looked like her feet weren't under her at all. In both falls, her jumps slid right off the landing edge...Sasha used to have that problem too. She can make up a lot of points in the FS but if Lipnitskaia and Miyahara score around where they scored at their last event, she'll be anywhere from 12 to 18 points in the hole. That means, barring a meltdown from them, her shot at gold or silver is unlikely. Also, she'd have to be perfect in the FS to make up the point difference and she's not known for any kind of consistency; she fell twice in her last FS.

Good-ness! What is wrong with the favorites of this competition?!

First Courtney implodes and now Satoko's score is waay less than what she got at JGP Baltic. I don't think she fell, but she only got 44.91 whereas she had a 56 something at her last event. She's ahead of Courtney by less than a point...wow.:disapp:

If Julia skates well, she might end up running away with this...

Will they all be age-eligible for Sochi?? Very excited to see how they develop!

Yes, they will.

Also, qualifying for Junior Worlds this season will be a blood bath! Right now the three frontrunners for a spot seem to be Adelina Sotnikova, Elizaveta Tuktamisheva and Julia Lipnitskaia (Polina Shelepen will have to hope to qualify for Europeans). It's too early to tell, but can they sweep the podium?
