Just an FYI, while chosing my hotel for Omaha 2013, I thought I would ask about a shuttle......
I decided to chose one of the close hotels after getting this from the Org committee.
(Chris trying to get out of Spokane despite the snow)

Hello Chris,

There is not a formal transportation plan to shuttle guests to and from the
CenturyLink Center Arena, however, depending on where you're staying,
various hotels may be offering a shuttle in situations where the majority of
their guests are in town for the Championships. The good news is that
downtown Omaha layout/footprint has many hotels that are walkable for
instances where the individual hotel property may not offer shuttle service.

If anything changes in this regard, you'll be able to stay current at
www.2013uschampionships.com.

Thank you,

Keith

During the annual College World Series, as well as the Olympic Swim Trials (coming for the second time), the vast majority of hotels provide shuttles to the venues. This is likely why they are not organizing an additional shuttle.

The official hotels would not at all require a shuttle to the venue (I have seen this complaint on other forums--that if there is not shuttle from the Hilton downtown, they will not come to Omaha--it is fricking across the street from the arena! But these people need door to door service, I guess).

As a native Nebraskan, the whining around the skate forums about Omaha has made me want to travel both coasts slapping people. Rest assured, there is a real airport; there are many, many restaurants; there are shopping areas...it is actually, in spite of people's visions of a frontier outpost with sod houses and tipis, a real city.

Oh how I understand your frustration. Alaska is "out" for any USFSA competition because we're "too cold, too far, and unable to deal with large amounts of people." Um... right...

I understand your irritation. As I recall, Omaha was a transportation hub in the golden age of the railroad, and as such was a destination for cattle drives from Texas and elsewhere. So it's been a hub city for well over a hundred years and should be viewed with respect by coastal dwellers such as I. Hey, the place that gave us Fred Astaire has my endorsement.

Just to add luster to the place: A few years ago I happened to be looking something up, and I came up with an astonishing number of film immortals who came from Nebraska, including not only Fred Astaire (see above) but also Marlon Brando, Robert Taylor, Henry Fonda, silent star Harold Lloyd, and two late-night talk show specialists, Dick Cavett and Johnny Carson. And newscaster Tom Brokaw. They must put something in the water in Omaha and Lincoln.

Olympia--The latest "star" from here is director Alexander Payne with movies like Election, Sideways, About Schmidt, and current award winner, The Descendants to his credit.

Omaha is a great city and those of you who come will enjoy it very much. When events have been held here, visitors have been overwhelmed by the city's hospitality, too. :)
